Halo developer 343 Industries has confirmed in a blog post that Halo 3: ODST on PC will begin test flighting in the first half of August. Halo Insiders should check their messages and notifications on Halo Waypoint when the time comes in order to ensure they don't miss their invitation to participate if they are chosen.
In terms of what content is offered in the flight, players can enjoy the following Campaign missions: Mombassa Streets, Tayari Plaza, Uplift Reserve, NMPD HQ, Data Hive, and Coastal Highway. Additionally, they can also play on the following Firefight maps through both Matchmaking and Custom Games: Crater (Night), Rally (Night), Crater, Lost Platoon, Windward, Chasm Ten, and Last Exit. Lastly, customization and Theater mode will both be in the flight. The stated goals of the flight are to test the distribution systems, validate Firefight for the game, make sure systems are working correctly, and to gather feedback on the available content.
If you would like to have a chance at participating in future test flights for Halo 3: ODST, as well as for Halo 4 later down the line, we highly recommend signing up for the Halo Insider Program. All you have to do is provide 343 Industries with your system specs and the information necessary for them to deploy test builds to your Steam and/or Microsoft account, and you may end up getting selected to play in the flight and help find bugs that need fixing. Best of all, becoming a Halo Insider is completely free, so there's no reason not to sign up.
If you want to hop into the action right now, though, look no further than Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It has all of the pre-Xbox One Halo shooters in one bundle that has an awesome $40 price, making it an excellent buy. It's available on Xbox One and PC (both Steam and the Windows 10 Store). Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 haven't fully released on PC yet, but Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, and Halo 3 are all available to play on PC.
