What you need to know

  • Mixer added a new streaming category for education.
  • The service hopes to attract educators who can share their knowledge with the community.
  • The category gives educators another platform to check out as remote learning spikes.

The move comes as more students are engaged in remote learning due to school closures because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Educators and companies around the globe are turning to virtual tools, such as Microsoft Teams, in a bid to keep classes and operations running while large gatherings are restricted. The move resulted in a massive surge of new users for Microsoft Teams in recent weeks, as Microsoft made its premium features free for six months.

Though there are only a few streams running in Micer's education category at the moment, it offers a single landing page for anyone wishing to find educational content on the service. That could come in handy for anyone looking to learn something new, and it allows not only teachers, but anyone with a special skill, to engage in instruction through an open forum.
