Next Windows 10 Mobile build to include mobile hotspot fix

Windows Insider chief Gabriel Aul recently took to Twitter with news that the next build of Windows 10 Mobile will include a fix for the mobile hotspot feature. From Aul:

"Next build is looking good. Has mobile hotspot, and most 10512 issues fixed. Perf a bit better too."

While we may not be getting a new Windows 10 Mobile build today, and there's no indication of when the next build might ship, this is still great news for those that were sorely missing the feature. It's also good to hear that most of the 10512 issues have been fixed, and hopefully the next build will be quite smooth.

  • Big deal its pre released os. I expect things not to work.
  • What I want is a faster browser which doesn't crash most of the time. Daniel are there any fixes for Edge? I remember you saying "Next build should bring many improvements for Edge."
  • Dude is talking to Daniel as if he was talking to Gabe Aul
  • Daniel has sources inside MS and they talk to him, IIRC he said Edge would work faster by next build, his sources told him this. I asked a question to someone who might have knowledge about this. Stop being an ass.
  • Actually it was the Edge team who responded to someone on Twitter saying that the next Mobile build would have a major Edge update.
  • It's the wrong Dan anyway.
  • Haha, that's what I was thinking!
  • Same here. This js why I didn't put it on my primary phone - without a reliable browser Windows Phones become rather tough to use. Edge crashes all the time on my L635 in the current preview.
  • I haven't had browser crashing issues at all. There are other issues but I have yet to have the browser crash on me.
  • Like issues with Forms? The drop down menus absoultely don't work like for entering in states.
  • This is what I was soing with an old 920. This build seemed to be running great, so I took the plunge and put it on my main phone. The start menu crashing is drivig me nuts. I expect some bugs, but I need a working Start screen.
  • I wonder if they'll trot out the same lie about builds for mobile becoming more frequent.
  • Edge crashes? Please post a few sites for us to test. Aside from a few controls like drop downs having an issue here and there, I've not experienced crashing.
  • I experience crashes on windows. I don't get crashes on windows phone. I'm not sure which OS he is talking about.
  • Another issue that I've experienced with Edge is with the map view in sites like zillow on my sp3, where you can interact with the map and select areas to search. I have left feedback already and a few upvotes.. I understand its current limitations but the average user will not. This is critical for MS to get right, they can't have new users abandon the browser because a few issues.
  • Windows Central
    IGN
Tumblr Any website with lots of graphics or ads.
  • Exactly. Even Facebook crashes it frequently. Try avclub.com it crashes it easily. Or the Atlantic.com
  • Not to mention layout issues. Try firstpost.com Also, any website that asks for authentication (via dialog) comes up as unauthorised. I can't open my network drive's transmission page.
  • Edge is the best browser on my seasoned l1520 so far. I like Facebook being displayed in touch version compared to mobile version, better than fb app.
  • Agree with this. I now prefer Edge for checking my Facebook than main app
  • Not crashing for me that much but "Find on page" is not working and not "zooming" into the column (one would think tapping/double tapping to a column would zoom into it), and often there is a blank space on the right and I have to zoom to be able to read anything.
  • They need to fix how Edge works with drop down menus, or rather hoe it doesn't work.
  • Ummmmm, Edge has major issues with page compatibility.... It was good a few builds back, but MS seems to have broke it.. I'm really looking forward to an update when the next build hits...
  • I wasn't able to tax my car on gov.uk because when you select your title (may be ok if you are Mr) but the page refreshes and reloads as blank. I ended up borrowing my friend's win 8.1 phone to do it on IE. I think we should have IE on the Win 10 TP until Edge is fully compatible.
  • EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ EXACTLY❕ ...........
    ...........
That is exactly what I'm talking about, amongst other things.... Mainly force closing... That selection/refresh issue wasn't there before.... AND, if this is a true W10 universal app, then why does desktop work so damn well, and doesn't have these issues❔❔❔❔❔❔
  • Agreed, but I went back to 8.1 for now. My younger years of patience and computer enthusiasm are far behind me. LOL
I also can't live without the "Hey Cortana" feature.
  • Im starting to get old too
  • The "Hey Cortana" feature is the one I miss the most.
  • I wish I had your problem, but instead on my phone Cortana is missing completely.
  • I get excited about new builds primarily of UI/UX changes.
  • Hurrah!!
  • It's about time!
  • Yeah, this was what was holding me from updating to Windows 10! When the update comes I will join the Windows 10
  • When is the official release date?
  • Sometime October-November.
  • I wouldn't bet on it. While the actual release might come around october/november, majority of us won't get it until at least January because of the carriers.
  • Those of us who are using Windows Insider, will all get the final release of Windows 10 at the same time. It will be no different from the"official" carrier released version. We will just get it sooner direct from Microsoft through the Windows Insider program. Daniel Rubino has been saying this for weeks now.
  • PfD was the same about features, but what about the Firmware update that MS can't give to us?
  • I have a Lumia and so Microsoft can give me Firmware too
  • >majority of us won't get it until at least January because of carriers. That soon?! Sweet! Better than the usual 6-9-month delay! Yes!! :P
  • Just enroll in the Insider program when the official launch happens. You'll get the official update, and when its finished upgrading, un-enroll from insider program if u wish. Simples. This was mentioned alot of times in previous articles
  • Apple have a history of releasing new iPhones in September, Google will apparently unveil new Nexus devices at the end of the month running Android 6. Microsoft will release new flagship devices which existing users don't like the look of a month or so after...... Is it worth saying good luck?
  • Wait, what? Murdering 3000+ people by hijacking and ramming airliners into buildings is a political issue?
    Disgusting.
  • Hum, I'm on 10512 and Hotspot works fine for me...
  • I can start it too but I can't connect to it Posted via the Windows Central App for Android On W10
  • Same here.  Latest build works great for me otherwise, buttery smooth,  but Mobile Hotpot has not worked in any build for me yet,  really hope it will actually be fixed completely in next build
  • I'm still on 8.1 but 101% sure my 928s hotspot will not work if (after official release) I update to W10. Every update breaks it on my phone
  • Takes to Twitter to say we're finally going to get something. Good grief.
  • You want him to go to your house with a mariachi band and tell you?:) :D
  • Microsoft Mariachi Band 2016 Windows X Edition with Mariachi SongWriter Pro ComingSoon™
  • Yes!
  • That's the least I expect!
  • Hahaha! Good one, someone!
  • Man, there's so many damn issues... I doubt if most issues have been fixed in the next build... That would mean the OS is almost ready to ship... I highly doubt that.. What Gabe failed to mention was the new issues the next build fixes..
    ......
See, that's the risk of testing the TP.. You gotta be willing to give a lot, to get a little... Things that worked fine now are broke in sacrifice for new features, or other fixes..... It's actually amazing that they let us get these builds, and it is exciting, but after awhile it can start to get damn frustrating... Lol.
    .........
I'm not complaining, because like i said, it's amazing MS even let's us test this stuff... But, this is the reality of testing on your daily driver...
  • Hence why they say "not recommended on daily driver" haha
  • That was the last thing I was waiting for, looks like I'll finally be switching to it as a daily driver.
  • I'll wait to see what Windows central says about it before I make it my daily driver.
  • Same here. Seriously considering upgrading now, except I'd be afraid something will break in the following build. I'm torn trying to decide whether to wait for final or go for it on this next build.
  • Don't do it. Even if it fixes 10512's multitude of problems (which I doubt) it's still nowhere near ready for daily driver.
  • Disagree. I have been going on business travel weekly and my 1520 is operating just fine as a daily driver. I especially rely on it for navigation.
  • agreed with btbam91, you'd almost be silly at this point to not have tried out the TP WP10.    I think a lot of people having issues are people with low class phones.
  • I wouldn't exactly consider my One a low class phone.......
  • You are both perfectly correct, it's always been about Phone models the One has always been behind in the queue with Windows, end of October W10 mobile public release
  • Navigation is rather horrible on my 1020. Cortana can't understand simple direction requests anymore, and when it does, it dumps you to the start screen rather than launching the maps app most of the time. The map app itself is fine except when it crashes, ignores when you selected mute, or displays your car 100 meters behind all the time, etc.
  • same here , almost no issues at all..  Only issue I have really is the fact that mobile hotspot does not work for me .. (Nokia 1020) but sounds like ti will be fixed soon
  • The builds need to get better fast. Public release is coming up soon!
  • They still have 2-3 months.
  • Less than two months. Pretty much 45 days.
  • Feels like an eternity since last build release.. A working Edge browser please!?!
  • They did say that next mobile build would have major Edge improvements.
  • Hmm, edge is one of the few things that works fine for me.
  • I havent had any problems with Edge. Well, I've had problems launching it without a start screen - sometimes I have to launch with cortana, lol.
  • Tired of latest slow ring build :3
  • Then go fast ring since the newer builds have far less bugs then the slow builds.
  • I would suggest waiting till you hear the next fast ring build has been released, read through the fixes and known issues, and *then* switch to the fast ring only if you're okay with the known issues.
  • People on the slow ring are just staying on the known issues longer than the fast ring. The slow ring basically just gets fast ring builds slower with no difference. Fast ring is safer.
  • Yep fast ring will remain the safest bet until an official rtm is out.
  • Err no, fast ring will have more bugs than the slow ring.
  • Sorry man but that simply isn't true. The slow ring is older builds which had way more bugs than current builds. And those bugs don't get fixed before sending build to the slow ring. So right now ot is safer to stay on fast ring if there isn't major bugs that limit you from being able to use the build. If it was stable vs beta that would work, but essentially these are all beta's building on themselves.
  • internet sharing works fine etc... are they talking about Bluetooth?
  • Nope it doesn't
  •   I  was suprised when I read about Mobile Hotspot finally will work work with the impending release - cause it already works on my Windows 10 Mobile on the 1520.
  • Is Mobile Hotspot the same as I Internet Sharing? I use this daily, and it has stopped me from installing the new builds...still running 8.1.
  • Yes is the same
  • Me too. But if this is included in a more stable issue I think I'm finally in. W10M looks good on the videos and I've been itching to put it on my 1020.
  • He said that yesterday
  • We might as well wait for the official release they way these builds coming out once a month!
  • I hope they fix the sms blocker.
  • So paraphrasing Gabe Aul - "It seems faster" :)
  • Well, "perf a bit better" either means "seems faster" or "doesn't crash as much." Not sure which at this point.
  • Hopeful that Bluetooth is fixed
  • I would like to see the interface with Cortana and the Microsoft Band working.  The Band loses its distinctive features without that.  I understood it was a Bluetooth issue, but my question about that has gone unanswered.  I'd also like to see the Visual Voicemail app work in 10 ( it did in 8.1 ) but that is a Verizon App and they likely won't do anything to fix it.  However, I can hope.
  • visual voicemail works perfectly fine on windows 10 with my lumia 1520.3 on t-mobile.
  • Visual voicemail works on t-mobile and at&t because those don't rely on an app. Verizon visual voicemail relies on an app (yet another way that Verizon provides a sub-par user experience from other carriers).
  • there not the only ones rogers has that too but couldn't've bothered to port it. It's a shame apple is using a proprietary implementation aswel Posted via the Windows Central App for Android On W10
  • Until recently I would have said Apple's middle name is Proprietary. However with the inclusion of just usb type-c I'd say they have gone pretty bonkers :P.
  • I think he's saving the build for Friday.... Microsoft conference
  • Has Microsoft ever released a build around an important event? It seems that the two aren't really connected.
  • hmm... they did with windows 10 for desktop (the big windows 10 event), and intended to for windows 10 mobile, but they missed the deadline there
  • Great to hear. Can't wait to be rocking Windows 10 on my 930.
  • man...still no OTG?grrr
  • My pure guess - won't be there in the intial release. Not that I , fortunately for me, care. :)
  • W10 for phones brings more than OTG, but it being available at release? Hard to say right now, I imagine it will but things can change last minute.
  • Everything NEXT built is getting better, hopefully this is real.
  • Cool
  • Cortana cant even release for standard English to worldwide?
  • Why not adding the CLEAR ALL function for background task.
  • Thats actually a really good suggestion. Have you suggested that in feedback so people can upvote it? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Maybe I can finally use the preview on my main device. I've been meaning to use it on my 1020 for awhile, but the lack of mobile hotspot was a deal breaker. Glad to hear things are shaping up as we move closer to release.
  • Still waiting on this to become available for the Samsung Ativ SE
  • Will probably never happen. MS would have to get 8.1 roms from Samsung for recovery rollbacks and they don't seem too keen on the idea. Trust me, I'd love to put 10 on my Ativ S Neo to play around with.
  • lol I have an ativ s lte aws variant that the service provider that fronted r&d & last to sell it doubt they'll get w10m in the end which is sad as id would've liked to try suretap with it as theres no handsets im interested in Posted via the Windows Central App for Android On W10
  • No TP for Samsung Ativ SE yet? No wonder OEMs are not ready to make WPs.
  • Still, waiting for the microphone to work in whatsapp, Voice Recorder, on speakerphone as this doesn't on my L930. I have to plug in a headset to record and use that microphone.
  • microphones of my Lumia 930 have completely died
  • Do they work on WP 8.1? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Yes, they do work on 8.1. Even when you're on a phonecall on W10M and switch to speakerphone the other doesn't hear you anymore. Which means the mic is muted or turned off somehow. Privacy settings on correct. I am only able to use the microphone of an plugged-in headset.
  • Not sure what build he's talking about, but all builds I'm aware of still have the Loading Loading Loading problem and the photo sharing issue.
  • Loading has become really rare for me, and don't remember having any issues with photo sharing
  • I dont have that issue at all in latest build ,, a few builds back yes, but not anymore
  • I hope it fixes the battery issues I've been having. I plugged my phone in for 6 hrs today and it lost 7%...
  • I want a fix for the "loading..." screen that drives me crazy
  • I get random starts of Cortana and a shaky ass screen which requires a lock screen push to straighten it up...
  • Seriously. I don't understand why that happens. Similar spec'd Androids don't take so long to load/resume apps. So the entire notion of WP8.1 being faster than Android, that is frequently seen on Windows Central, is failing me.
Seriously, what is the problem Daniel?
  • Apparently it's your understanding of a tech preview
  • WP8.1 wasn't exactly a speed demon with resuming apps either.
  • The start screen issue is a nightmare. I read that having less than 30 tiles helps. I reduced mine and it is a bit better but not much. My biggest issues is one boy mentioned by anyone here. Apps on the SD card come up as unavailable on reboot. I ended up uninstalling apps I don't use as much to get them onto my 8GB 640XL phone storage. I need the SD apps feature fixed. For me running it on my 640XL is important because that is one of the phones to get the first release update and the only way MS can find out about these issues is to test them out.
  • Need fixes to Edge for sure, but I am expecting that is a given. Also Groove, which continually needs me to sign in, causing delays in playback. Bring it all on.
  • Has this been asked today? When in...
  • For me every new build have more and more bugs and are slower
  • For me every new build has more and more bugs and slower
  • Say it again...
  • OK. Where is the Hotspot functionality for regular Windows 10 ??
  • While everybody is impatiently waiting for the hotspot to work properly. I'm just sitting here waiting for the picture albums from win8.1 to come back....
  • And unified inbox and Bing vision and OEM apps in the store and...
  • Are you high? He said it yesterday. And just a sentence is not enough.
  • I gave up on 10 on my One. I wanted to contribute to feedback being that I'm sure they don't get as many One users as Lumia users but I can't deal with the missing features and regression bugs that never seem to get fixed.
  • Still insider...need final version...
  • There won't be a final version
  • I hope it fixes the loading start screen issue
  • This^ and resuming bs.
  • Yes, on my Lumia 822 unlocking and loading the start screen is very buggy and slow
  • So does it on 1020
  • Its a must...
  • Kinda scary that we have no official word on release of Windows 10 mobile.Though it would be alot closer by now,at this rate it's probably the end of the year or early next waiting carrier approval.
  • Automatic hotspot sharing and without mobile data connection it should work just like an android
  • As long as they fix the Bluetooth freezing issue on the 1520.
  • I'm looking forward to a build soon that I can safely use on my Daily (and only) Lumia 930.
  • That time arrived with last two builds, I have it on my 930 and it runs without issue. Give it a try, u can always roll it back with wprt and a laptop. You wont regret it
  • We won't be seeing any of this as long as IFA is going on.
  • Yup, most likely after IFA but how long after IFA? That is the question.
  • I figure at least a week, if not two.
  • Will there be a 100% chance that adding music through the Phone Companion app (file explorer) will actually add it to my groove music library? Right now it's about 50/50. I started a uservoice thread on this issue. Hopefully it makes it into the next build as it's probably already too late for this one.
  • If any MS employees on this project are on here just want to say thank you. Working on projects I understand the troubleshooting and attention to detail that is put in.
  • +822 You guys and gals do rock and we love you!
  • It's probably coming tomorrow based on the fact that he mentioned what's going to be in it
  • When I first installed this build I had MAJOR issues. Did a factory reset and have had no real game stopping issues. Been my daily driver with great functionality every since. Almost there, very few complaints.
  • What about account syncing with email, calendar and people app :(
  • I'm just tired of this resuming & loading crap..it's ridiculous.
  • *yawn*
  • new build means neew bugs and new problems
  • This makes me wonder the hamburger menu is a feature or a fix.... LOL
  • I did a factory reset and I have not had any issues. I have slight graphical glitches here and there. I have to say I went back to Win 8.1 on my 920...due to shattering my 1520. I missed Win 10 immensely. I was 100% against Win 10 Mobile with the first release, I have to say I love it. I am looking forward to the final build and the 950XL or Surface Phone.
  • I am just looking forward to the delay on the lockscreen to be fixed.
  • I noticed on 630 that if you swipe up when the lock screen appears, the keypad for entering your pin shows up.
  • Expect new build will arrive to fast ring tomorrow morning or maybe next Tuesday.
  • Microsoft so SLOOOOOOOW. When guys?
  • I was using otg on my android atrix for gaming and usb drive but still no otg in windows 10 why so slow
  • Is it on the Samsung ativ yet?
  • But remember W10 will never be complete, a work in progress
  • Not feature complete is one thing, buggy is another.
  • Looking forward to the next build! Bring it on! :-)
  • Need fixes for application installation errors
  • My mobile banking websites rely on Pop Up windows. We need to have this feature and allow us to turn it on and off. I prefer not to use Mozilla. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Is it hotspot or internet sharing ..?
And will it fix the issues we face to use apps like shareit. and xender..?
  • Mobile Hotspot and Internet Sharing is the same thing (it's called  mobile Hotspot in Windows 10 mobile)
