Pricing and Availability for the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL

Microsoft pulled the curtain back on their latest flagship Windows Phones today during the New York Event and while we have been eager to see the official specifications and design, we are equally as eager to know the pricing and availability.

The unlocked Microsoft Lumia 950, sporting the 5.2" screen, will be available from Microsoft Stores beginning in November from Microsoft and will cost $549 in the U.S. and £499.99 in the UK. It will also be available via AT&T but pricing and a release date have not been announced.

The unlocked Microsoft Lumia 950XL, sporting the larger 5.7" screen, will also be available directly from Microsoft beginning in November from Microsoft. The cost of the 950XL will be $649 in the U.S. and £549.99 in the UK.

Once we get a more specific date, we'll pass it on.

Keep in mind that these models will be unbranded and will lack any contractual discounts that providers may offer. We expect the AT&T versions of the 950 and 950XL to become available later in November and will pass on specifics when they become available. We will also pass on any information we receive from service providers from other regions as that information becomes available.

For the rest of our NYC #Windows10Devices coverage head here:

  • In for the 950. $549 is a steal. I wish T-MO would carry it though for wi-fi calling.
  • I am pleased with that price!
  • I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think T-Mobile will carry either one.
  • No they're not! John J. Legere is being an arsehole about the whole Windows 10 phone echo system, claiming that Microsoft did not offer his company the phone. So he's got is manties in a twist over it. Now spitting the dummy like a child over the whole fiasco and not offering ANY Microsoft phones at all! If it wasn't for the fact that I need WiFi calling, as I live in a mobile phone coverage dead spot, I'd change carriers in a heartbeat.
  • Hopefully they will have a payment plan as well
  • Yeah, I'd rather do the no interest payment plan like I did with my 925 than come off of the $549+tax upfront.
  • Paypal Credit - 6 months interest free currently.
  • Thank you for reminding me that I have this option, no really...I appreciate it. Thought I was going to have to have words with Tmo US CEO John Legere about this...I should go apologize to him and ATT on twitter. =D
  • Just remember, if you happen to be an ATT customer the price should be much lower and you can unlock the device right away. I unlocked my 640 within 20 hours of purchase and spent all of $60 on the phone.
  • The problem with that is the device is still treated as an ATT device when it comes to OS or firmware updates. If and when updates are available, you are still left to ATT's mercy even though you have an unlocked, fully paid-off phone. Going the unlocked, unbranded route is stil a better option, IMO.
  • Not as long as you join the insider program.
  • Isn't Wi-Fi calling baked into the OS? I will grab a 950 regardless to run on T-Mo.
  • I'm telling you right now that until my financial situation changes T-Mobile is the most affordable monthly way for me to get any phone I want at any given time. So I'll probably be sticking with my Xperia Z3 until that changes. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I agree! I need Wi-Fi calling for work. I would grab either phone if this is an OS feature.
  • Please come to Verizon!!
  • If T-mobile doesnt carry it, I will cancel within a month. Im so tired of tmobile always being behind the curve.
  • Lumia 550 specs?
  • Wrong article!
  • Here's to hoping Rogers carries them Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • ya same here... I need to update my 1520 badly
  • I just had ATT replace my 1520 so, the only thing I need is the official Windows 10 mobile. The current TP version runs ok, but I'm looking forward to the public version. Unfortunately, my son will likely get his hands on it before I do, considering I told him I would get it for him, if he maintained at least a B+ average and maintain it. I will upgrade in the spring. Lol
  • Sorry for the redundancy there.
  • How did u do that I did insurance on mine they said it's eol and sent me and htc one which I didn't want, nad this was like 4 months ago
  • I had issues, when I cracked my screen. I was told they had the exact phone, when I asked. They initially told me that that would get the exact same phone. A day or two later, I ended up with a LG G3. When I called and bitched, they told me that MY phone was not in stock. I talked to 3 different customer service reps. I had to live with the LG for about a week, before they FINALLY sent me the right phone. But wait, there's more! The replacement phone screen stops working and I'm faced with having to get that one replaced. Fortunately, they sent me the right phone the first time. The sad thing is, when I asked about the HTC M8 for Windows the first time, they told me it was not comparable to the 1520. SMH
  • Good job, kid! =D
  • Or maybe even the Canadian Microsoft store
  • Mobilesyrup confirmed with MS, phones will be available through the store in December for $749 and $849
  • Woohoooo!!!!!
Finally Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • No more branded phones for me. $650 is fair. Note than I would want to spend buy the tech is worth it for this one. I just need to confirm the xl will also run dual SIM. Everything I been reading just mentions the 950. Not necessarily a deal breaker I do run a second line for work. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • God I hope we get some carrier support.
  • To be honest carriers are what killed alot of Lumia firmware support. The hell with carriers IMO Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I just want to be able to use the phone on a reliable network. What good is the phone if I'm stuck with a carrier that only gets 3G?
  • I don't and never had that problem with unlocked phones. So I can't relate. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • It has 2 antennae, you'll get awesome coverage regardless of network. Lmao.
That's what they chose to brag about in presentation, fail.
  • How is that a fail?
  • Having 2 antennas makes no difference if someone can connect to 3G or LTE.  That's all dependant on if the phone supports the bands used by their carrier.
  • The fail is that you didn't understand the point of 2 antennas, when it was explained. The purpose of having 2 is to ensure that you have a good signal, no matter how you hold it. It has nothing to do with what network your on.
  • No, what killed them was a crappy app store, without the apps is just another phone, and no one in their right mind will buy it, end of story. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  •   um really? NO ONE? haha thats a pretty big statment there sir. I will buy the XL, as i know many ppl will. I am not limited to apps. My life doesnt revolve around apps or my phone all the time. I have a life, a living one, not some fake app driven virtual one, as im sure millions of ppl are the same. So just because you HAVE to have millions of pointless apps in the app store that many you will never use. I and many others could care less, and have had WP since 6.5 and never felt like i have been missing out.  Did you know the 47% of apps/games in the app store on ios see downloads of 0-5 max? why? cause the ecosystem is a mess and there are far to many to flip through. You should join us in the real world some time life is great
  • What killed them was the sales people at at&t. Every time I have gone in asking about Windows phone, starting back with the 900, I have invariably been pushed to another product. It got really bad with the iPhone. Sales people seem to have something against windows phone, but I can't imagine why. Do they get higher commissions on the other devices?
  • 659€ for the 950 and 749€ for the 950xl? I'll pass. Better to wait a few months until Windows 10 Mobile shows its potential and other OEMs hopefully offer better priced choices. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • What? It's 550$ and 650$
  • Yes in the US and in $. Talking about the Euro price in Germany for example Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Have they announced the pricing for Germany? That seems like a bit of a stretch even with the surge in the U.S. dollar.
  • Where did you see the german prices? They aren't on yet...
  • Only AT&T is carrying these phones? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • What a perfect pricing.... Lumia 950 will be mine for sure.... Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Looks good
    I want one
  • Agreed.
  • So, if i buy this phone from Microsoft for $650....will it work on Verizon's network?
  • I hope we see something for Verizon.
  • Chances are no....I would not buy it unless you have a 100% conformation but, if it's going to AT&T, means no CDMA and that means, No Verizon support.
  • ^ Not entirely accurate. It could still be available on Verizon. We will just have to wait and see
  • These are unlocked phones - they will work on all carriers including CDMA.  The new Qualcomm SOCs support all bands.  It is likely the ATT version will have the CDMA disabled - since you know, they like to mess with stuff.
  • Nevermind - after looking again - i'm pretty sure you're right.
  • I really hope there is a Verizon version
  • Getting 950XL ASAP. Mind blown over and over
  • 640usd for a phone that turns into a desktop PC? Incredible. I'll probably throw away my laptop soon. Are there any battery powered monitors yet?
  • So when you travel and need a pc you'll carry a monitor, keybd, and mouse along?  As a semi-frequent biz traveller not seeing this as a useful option.  Laptop much more travel friendly.  OR a Surface - you hear me boss???
  • There are $200 PCs out there that run just fine. I've had a $220 Asus that is still going strong on Win 10 and it's 3yrs old. I'm not ditching it to use my phone exclusively
  • Now I'm tempted still don't like the onscreen buttons though
  • OUCH, this is bad news. Over $100 more than Google's new Nexus phones, seriously?! Over $200 more than the Moto X Pure? These will be well received by Windows Phone die-hards, but they're certainly not going to win any comverts.
  • Google phones are built like trash.
  • Don't hate, nexus products are will built. Still using my original Nexus 7 with no issues.
  • You must never have owned one. The Nexus 4, 5, and 6 were all well-built, and the 4 and 5 were exceptional for the price.
  • They already said those devices are for the fans rather to attract new customers, this will be the opportunity for the oems Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • If these were "for the fans" as people keep repeating there would be color options, stop spreading lies
  • If that's the case, they're not treating their fans very well. Google is treating their fans to reasonably priced hardward, and Microsoft should be doing the same. And considering Microsoft (formerly Nokia) is the only OEM that has ever made a decent phone, they should really be pushing these things.
  • That's actually the problem. They want to get other OEMs to make devices. That's why they leave enough room for them on pricing and design. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • That's a terrible strategy. If Microsoft can't get consumers interested in the platform, then the OEM's certainly won't be interested either. If Microsoft sells 20 million of these in the next 3 months, you can bet that there will be some OEM's itching to get into that market. They will never sell that many phones at these prices, especially when the app ecosystem is still so spotty.
  • Wtf, surely you're trolling. 549 instead of 700 like a Samsung or Apple it's reasonably priced. Especially for what these do and the tech in them.
  • Sure, it's also reasonably priced compared to Vertu! Microsoft just doesn't have the same strength in mobile that Apple or Samsung have, and can't reasonably expect to sell more than a handful at these prices. It's just not going to happen. And even Samsung's sales have slowed dramatically due to lower-cost competitors making really compelling mid-range products. That's who Microsoft should be targeting with these. $400 buys you a really nice Android phone. Where is the $400 Windows phone?
  • According to a lot of people, these phones are very well priced. I think the same as well.
  • Tmobile needs to stop playing games, and carry the 950xl.
  • Agreed, on TMO as well and been waiting ages for a non-budget phone. Hopefully MS store has some sort of payment plan, can get one unlocked on their network.
  • I'd rather have the 950 om TMO, XL is just too large of a phone for me to carry around.
  • I'd prefer the 950xl. Im a tmobile sales associate, and am hoping we will carry it. We have displays in our stores for windows devices, that are currently showcasing 635 and 530. We don't carry them any more and hope the 950/xl will replace them.
  • I'm on the original jump and have only got to upgrade once. Please Tmobile, carry either of them. Its free for me ffs.
  • For the hardware it's a solid price.
  • I think MS is finally on the right track.
  • 950XL is definitely my next phone along with the Band 2!!
  • I would be nice od the Lumia had CDMA radios to run on Verizons network.
  • When can I pre-order in the UK ?
  • TBH I don't like that metal ring around the camera.
  • I don't like . I luvvvvvvv it
  • Me either but I think after i saw the real thing at the live event, I kinda like it now... Not that bad..
  • It did look better (even if I still don't love it) at the live event so that's good.
  • Nice. They sell unlocked versions straight from Microsoft! Hopefully they do this for all their phones from now on.
  • Goodbye Verizon and hello AT&T!!! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Of course Verizon won't get smh. Already dead on arrival in the US.
  • buy unlocked
  • difference in network. won't work with Verizon's CDMA. I know because I have Verizon. Bastards.
  • these have universal radios - go look at the spec sheet...
  • I got confused by the WCDMA support on the phones.  It doesn't look like CDMA will be supported which is a shame - this needs to get fixed...
  • People.complained about the presentation but he said it during the presentation, most of the bloggers released most of the information about it anyways. Only thing I hate is that it is not available until November, no date, just November.
  • Well other rumors said that they're waiting for Threshold 2 for the release so that desn't have a date yet so they don't want to give a date, sell it and give it a majer update 2 days later. (for example). I know this was a hardware event but i was kind of hoping for some glimpse into the official future of Windows 10.
  • Cool prices must say...
  • Cab someone tell me how liquid cooling on thi phone works?
  • bing it.
  • Ask Cortana, she knows it. I forgot that one.
  • It's just a heatpipe. Copper tube with water inside that steams up the middle away from the heat source, condenses by the fan or radiator or heatspreader, and then wicks back down fins toward the heat source again to repeat the cycle. Surface Pro 3 has it, as well as many desktop CPU coolers.
  • Anyone hear a mention at all of iris scanner? Hard to tell since the Xbox 1 buffering was so bad I tried to catch it all and re load but XBEi was a FAIL today
  • I think it haven't mentioned.. Or maybe I missed that one too..
  • Yep it was mentioned and demonstrated and seemed to be fast
