What you need to know
- Project Resistance is an upcoming Resident Evil team-based game from Capcom.
- It's coming to Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 possibly in 2020.
- More details will be revealed in the coming months.
- The title is a multiplayer experience along the lines of Fable Legends.
A few weeks ago, Capcom announced that it was going to reveal a new Resident Evil game in early September. Leaks pointed to a team-based multiplayer shooter, and today, we got its first details. Project Resistance, if that is its final name, take a lot of queues from Left 4 Dead because it focuses on fast-moving creatures. However, some fan-favorite monsters also return like the Tyrant from Resident Evil 2.
Unlike Left 4 Dead, Project Resistance is an asymmetric online five-person multiplayer game that combines both co-op and competitive gameplay. Just like Friday the 13th: The Game or Dead by Daylight, players create their own survival horror experience. As expected, four helpless players have to work together to escape the mastermind behind their misery. It seems like Microsoft may have a marketing agreement with Capcom for the game because the company pointed out that it was going to be Xbox One X Enhanced. No information was provided on what to expect for PlayStation 4 Pro.
In each match, the mastermind tracks the survivors through security cameras. This player wields a strategic deck of cards to create dangerous obstacles like summoning vicious creatures, traps, and more. It's a lot like Fable Legends if you think about it. Luckily, it's not all hands-off because you can also directly control zombies if you're the mastermind. And yes, you can also step into the shoes of the infamous Tyrant. The survivors have simpler roles. They have to work together, as they have different classes, to solve puzzles and escape the map before the timer runs out.
Xbox Insider Program members and Resident Evil Ambassadors will be eligible for a chance to participate in the Project Resistance closed beta on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 soon. The closed beta will run from October 4 to 7. Registration will be open between September 11 and 18 here.
