SPB Software: Windows Phone 7 still an option

SPB Software was a major developer on the Windows Mobile front but with the design of Windows Phone 7, we haven't seen any transition by SPB to WP7. Earlier we reported that SPB was waiting to see demand from users first.  Still curious as to whether or not Windows Phone 7 was on SPB's drawing board, we decided to reach out to the developer and received the following response from SPB.

For sure we are planning to port some of our applications to Windows Phone 7. Some of them would work very well on it (e. g. SPB Wallet, SPB Finance), for others porting might not have much sense (e. g. SPB Mobile Shell).

Seeing that there is still the possibility of SPB titles transitioning to Windows Phone 7, what titles would you like to see SPB offer for WP7? I wouldn't mind seeing SPB News, Wallet, or Traveler make the move. You could also make the case that if HTC can have a Sense Hub, why couldn't SPB have a Mobile Shell hub?

  • Personally I'd like to see Wallet be ported. But I'd say SPB could go down the way of some of the manufacturers (HTC, Samsung), and create their own subset, to pin on the front of WP7 with maybe Weather, Time (alarms), and even their FlashCards. I use each of these and it would be great to have them available for transferring when I move to WP7 in the near future.
  • gladly laid down $40ish bucks for SPB's mobile shell, to get rid of the horrendous UI on my otherwise-great Samsung Omnia back in the day... however, I have to say, it's a whole new world now with the rise of the iPhone and Android. Most of SPB's software (what we would now simply call apps) are overpriced in today's market. Unless they are willing to tone it WAY down, I don't see them making the transition.
  • Resco Radio showed us yesterday for $1.99. Good developer, good app and a good price. Waiting for you SPB.
  • SPB News, Finance where pretty good. Brain Evolution got lots of play by me :). If they can get the LiveTile development down ppl will pay for the apps... and pay nicely.
