Every weekend, Windows Central streams an Xbox One game or two on Twitch for 1-2 hours and gives out free games to the cool people who join us during the stream. It's like a live podcast, only you also get to watch a game while chatting with our awesome readers and viewers!
Tonight we played sci-fi twin-stick shooter Tachyon Project, a slick twin-stick shooter for Xbox One and Steam. Read on for quick impressions, contest winners, and the full video replay!
There are plenty of fast-paced twin-stick shooters in the sea, but Tachyon Project stands out from the crowd with its inventive science fiction story. In the near future, a pair of hackers invent an AI named Ada that can evolve and break into any system. Unfortunately, the authorities discover and capture them just as Ada is born. Now Ada must fight to recover her parents and discover her place in the world…
Tachyon Project's story mode features a vast array of levels, each with multiple waves and objectives. Players must kill specific targets, survive for a period of time against overwhelming odds, and much more. A ship upgrade system lets you unlock and equip the best weapons for the level at hand. And when you're finished with Story Mode and Story Mode+, Challenge Mode packs a number of challenges with local multiplayer support.
Fans of Geometry Wars 3 and other arena-based twin-stick shooters won't want to miss Tachyon Project!
Stranger of Sword City
Stranger of Sword City is the first and only dungeon-crawling RPG (Role-Playing Game) on Xbox One. As the game begins, a plane from our world vanishes only to crash in a mysterious fantasy world. The sole survivor becomes a Stranger, a human with supernatural powers. The hero joins the other Strangers in Sword City and begins a fight to recover Blood Crystals from dangerous Lineage monsters.
In the tradition of classic games like Might & Magic and Wizardry, Stranger in Sword City takes place entirely from a first-person perspective. Players must explore a variety of grid-based dungeons, filling in the map and battling all manner of monsters along the way.
The equipment found in dungeons can be identified back in town, hopefully boosting your party's chances of survival. Players can only save progress in town, so the further you go into a dungeon, the more dangerous it gets. Prepare for a challenging (and grindy) RPG experience.
Recently released on Xbox One and PlayStation Vita, Stranger of Sword City mixes traditional first-person dungeon-crawling with gorgeous Japanese artwork. If you long for an old-school, tough-as-nails RPG experience, look no further.
We streamed Tachyon Project for 60 minutes and Stranger in Sword City for ~30 minutes. During that time, we gave out 20 game codes:
- 10 Tachyon Project for Xbox One
- 5 Tachyon Project for PlayStation 4 (North American accounts only)
- 5 Tachyon Project for Steam
See the winners at the end of this story.
How to watch Twitch livestreams
What's the best way to experience Twitch? The Twitch website on your PC or Mac web browser. If you don't have or prefer not to use a computer, you can get the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Xbox 360 Twitch apps and watch from the comfort of your couch. Android and iOS both have official and unofficial Twitch apps to choose from as well.
On Windows Phone, you'll have to grab an unofficial app. There are several to choose from, each with different strengths and weaknesses. Only one app lets you search directly for our channel, though. If you use the others you'll have to find and follow us from a web browser first. Read the roundup to learn more!
Want to know what's next for Windows Central's Twitch programming? We stream a different game every Saturday (and sometimes Sunday). The stream always starts at the same time: 9pm Eastern (8pm Central, 6pm Pacific, 1am GMT). Over the next few weeks, we'll be streaming the following (schedule not finalized):
- April 9: Enigmatis from Artifex Mundi – a brand new release!
- April 16 and 23: To be announced
- Saturday, April 30: Arslan: The Warriors of Legend from Koei Tecmo – A $60 value!
We hope you'll tune in as often as you can! Set a recurring alarm on your phone so you'll always know when it's time for the stream to start.

Empire of Sin, the wildly ambitious gangster simulator from Romero Games, combines aspects of Civilization, XCOM, and a Tycoon game to let you take over 1920s Chicago. All those disparate pieces work together surprisingly well for a flavorful and complex test of strategy.
