Microsoft has been trying to get more developers to release their apps for the Windows Phone platform, but there's also a problem with major app creators and publishers that don't bother to update them with new features or improvements for months. In a couple of cases, the apps haven't been updated for nearly a year.

Microsoft recently revealed a new Developer's Code of Conduct for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone apps that stated, among other things, that developers must stay active in the store. That's certainly not the case for these five popular free apps, which have seen numerous feature and bug fix updates for their iOS and Android counterparts over the past year. In fact, most of these apps have seen some update in the past month for those two platforms, and none have been updated later than early September. That is certainly not the case for their Windows Phone versions.

eBay to spin off PayPal into separate public company in 2015

eBay will spin off its online payment division PayPal into its own separate, and publicly traded, company sometime in the second half of 2015. eBay claims that keeping PayPal around beyond 2015 "clearly becomes less advantageous to each business strategically and competitively."

eBay will ask you to change your password today after an attack

eBay has announced today that users of the popular service should change their passwords immediately due to a cyber attack that compromised a database containing encrypted passwords. A press release sent out by the company stresses that only non-financial data was affected.

Hastily investigating the matter, eBay found no evidence of any unauthorized access to financial or credit card information, but we strongly urge all readers to pop into their accounts and make the change regardless.

Have you used eBay on Windows Phone recently? If so you probably walked away a little dissatisfied with the experience. Head to the Windows Phone Store and you’ll see it sitting there with an average review of three and a half stars, but a lot of dissatisfied users. It’s not a terrible app per se, it’s just lacking a lot of features and functionality that you’d want in an eBay app. This is especially apparent when compared to the app offering on iOS and Android. No worries though, since eBay is getting an update ready for you.

Preproduction Nokia Lumia 1520 for AT&T hits eBay

A preproduction unit of the Nokia Lumia 1520 for AT&T is currently listed on eBay for $575. While preorders already started, the Lumia 1520 will not officially be available to the public until November 22nd. The seller, surfacedude, has 271 feedbacks and 100% ratings. He writes in the listing description:

This is a preproduction device. Final design hardware and software. It is just a network test device.

The preproduction Nokia Lumia 1520 being sold on eBay is black with 16GB of internal storage. Starting November 22nd, you can head over to an AT&T or Microsoft store to get it in matte black, matte yellow, matte white or glossy red. Who’s going to press the ‘Buy It Now’ button and possibly get the device earlier than everyone else?

UK charity lists white Xbox One for auction on eBay

It's known that Microsoft has constructed white Xbox One units for employees who worked on the next generation console, but UK charity GamesAid has listed an Xbox One on eBay - and it's in white. The auction includes the console itself (adorned with "I Made This" to the right of the disc tray), along with a special edition controller, Kinect sensor and headset.

While the Nokia Lumia 1020’s design is one of their most solid yet, with a smooth, matte polycarbonate shell, there’s still the off chance you may drop and ding up your 41MP camera phone. Luckily for you there may be a way out, assuming you have some technical savvy.

On eBay, a seller has posted for sale the Lumia 1020 body/shell for replacement. The item goes for a fair-priced $30 and is available in black, white and yellow, meaning in theory you could swap out one color for the next (though no matching SIM door is included). The seller is based out of China and has a 99.5% reputation on the auction site.

Third party eBay app comes to Windows Phone with eBay’s blessing

While we’re generally okay with the official eBay app for Windows Phone, there’s nothing like a little competition to keep things going steady in innovation. Such is the case with the newly released Auctionapp (Auctionapp.co) for Windows Phone (7.x and 8).

The app is sanctioned by eBay having been “vetted” by their Partner Network and Developer teams, so it's legit. That’s good news as it means the folks behind this app can access eBay’s services and in theory, improve upon them (or at least offer a different experience).
