Treo Pro WILL be Available on AT&T, Perhaps not until December (at best)
Palm has just confirmed on the quarterly conference call that the Treo Pro will be released officially a US Carrier (Yeah, we're going with AT&T on that). Unfortunately, we don't have any idea yet about pricing or availability. The Treo Pro is just now beginning to ship in unlocked form to US customers who have pre-ordered the device.
If we were forced to guess, we'd say that we're looking at a December release at best. AT&T's leaked roadmap earlier today did not include the Treo Pro. Additionally, during the call Palm broke their policy of not talking about future results by suggesting that their November would be pretty thin on revenue due to extended carrier verification processes. Hopefully it will still make it onto the carrier this calendar year.
Treo Pro lovers: will you wait for the official AT&T release with it's concurrent subsidized price or are you jumping on the unlocked version?

Not waiting here, I'm not eligible for an upgrade until almost a year from now, and I had around $200 in amazon gift certificates to use, so I pre-ordered one. Shipped overnight for around $350. -
not waiting either...though I could get an upgrade discount, my experience with my treo 750 and tilt has really turned me off on AT&T's bloat ware - i want an AT&T free phone.
-
Man,,, these wait and see choices drive me nuts! I ordered from palm and probably will receive it on the second week of Oct,,,,, guess I could send it back on the second week of Nov if tips point to a December release for a subsidized Pro

I'd love to get one of these without the AT&T bloat, alas my checkbook (and my 2 boys who love to eat more than see daddy with a new toy) will not allow me to get one unlocked. At least I have an option now to replace my aging 750. Thanks for the heads up. Go December!!!!
-
A phone without "Get Xpress Mail"? Might be worth every penny!
-
While AT&T seems logical, I can only hope the reason Verizon hasn't released the 800W is because they were waiting on the Treo Pro. Come on Verizon, my 700p is long in the tooth and you don't have anything to replace it! Give me the Treo Pro or a sexy HTC Touch Pro!!!

It doesn't matter if ATT loads the ROM up with junk. You can always re-image the device with a light ROM from xda.

exactly!!!:D -
I'm pre-ordering and mine, and then sell it when AT&T comes out with a subsidized one. I don't want to wait any longer.

I got to use this device at a Radioshack convention this week. A Palm rep was using one and he let me try it out. I really liked the size and weight compared to my 755p. I still wasn't as fond of windows compared to Palm. I asked them about the next Palm unit. They said there is a new Linux based one but it is so hush hush that only the VP has used it. Anyone who lets anything out will get fired, so they didnt even want to find out anything about it yet.
-
I listened to the conference call, and as far as i can remember, Ed Colligan never mentioned any specific carrier. All he said that yes he expects it will be carried by carriers in the US.
-
Looking at the specs, AT&T is the only viable option. It's not a CDMA device, so Verizon and Sprint are out, and it doesn't support the T-Mobile 3G band. Not to mention the huge customer base that AT&T has. It'll be AT&T.

If the release of Treo 750v is anything to judge by, don't hold your breath to expect AT&T to release it on December. If my memory is correct Treo 750v released on October 2006 & AT&T offered Treo 750 on February 2007.

I think this time it will be different

Anybody care to speculate on whether or not the AT&T version will have Blackberry Connect? This seems like the perfect device with Blackberry Connect. I loved it on my Tilt and miss it on my new Ipaq 910c....
-
I figure by December there will be two dozen ROMs on xda to flash....

Slight correction: I got my Treo 750 on January 8, 2007, but by the same token, the Treo 750v was available in September 2006.
I am having the same thoughts, though. With the Palm delays in shipping now, we're getting closer and closer to December, but I also think January is a more realistic date. Just look at what's been happening to those who are waiting for the Blackberry Bold (including myself)...End of July, became mid-August, then "definitely" September became October, and now BGR reports a revision of AT&T's release sheet for phones showing the Bold only as "ETA November".
I love AT&T. I do. But when they put out a release date, it doesn't mean a whole lot. It could always happen that they suddenly surprise us.
Always remember: Anticipation is half the fun. I think we all have been doing too much anticipating for it to be fun anymore. -

It is now January 2009 and no Palm Treo Pro on AT&T. Now they launched the Pre, exclusively with Sprint. Hey, you guys at Palm! I am giving it another month and then I will be going to an iPhone. Can't believe I'm saying it, but I've had it with waiting and after two years, my Treo 750 is showing its age. I'd get another, but hey, isn't that why companies launch new products. It's supposed to make you want to get the new equipment, generating sales, profits, etc. I've had some sort of Palm for the past ten years. I think I'm the last Palm user in the business community. If they lose die-hard Palm users like me, who will be left?
-
Yeah... Way to threaten 'em, dude. If they don't meet your demands, you're just going to have to give them a bunch of cash for another AT&T exclusive phone. They must be shakin' in their boots!
