Windows Phone Games

The Impossible Path is a Windows Phone game that will test your visual memory and ability to steadily trace a path between two points. It is a puzzle game, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

The Impossible Path has over one hundred levels of play that span three difficulty levels. Graphics are minimal and while game play starts off a little on the slow side, it doesn't take long to pick up the speed. After playing the game for the past few days, The Impossible Path comes across as an entertaining Windows Phone game to pass the time with.

Pulpi Rescue is a fast paced Windows Phone puzzle game that has you eliminating fish as they storm the beaches where pulp, who I believe is an octopus, is located.

Regardless as to what type creature the main character is, the Windows Phone game includes two gaming modes to keep you busy, decent graphics and a game pace that has a little zip. I will warn you that the game is plagued with ads for other gaming titles from the developer but if you can look past these ads, Pulpi Rescue has potential.

Bunny Goes Boom is a simple, easy to play Windows Phone game that has you piloting a rocket that has a bunny rabbit strapped to it. You'll have to steer the rocket around a host of obstacles to see how high you can fly it.

The slightest nick against any of the dangers will cause the rocket to explode and the bunny to go boom. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, Bunny Goes Boom isn't a difficult game to pick up but you may be surprised how challenging something so simple can be. I'm not sure it can hold up to hours of game play but for shorter periods, Bunny Goes Boom might be an option to consider.

There is a wide variety of Windows Phone games available in the Store, many designed to educate and entertain our children. While these games may not appeal to everyone, if you have children these Windows Phone titles can come in handy. Whether it is for long road trips or waiting for a table at a restaurant, these titles can keep your children occupied and teach them a few things along the way.

The Windows Phone Store has a series of collections that group themed apps and games together, making it easier to find the Windows Phone title you are looking for. The For the Kids Collection groups a couple of dozen children's games together. We have visited this collection before and thought it was a good time to revisit things. For this week's roundup, we have plucked four titles from the For the Kids Collection to highlight.

Darklings is a new Windows Phone game that was first released over on iOS last Fall. The game has had a fair amount of success over on iOS and after receiving support from the AppCampus, the developers have successfully ported the action game to Windows Phone. As an added bonus, the Windows Phone version includes exclusive content.

Available for low memory Windows Phones, Darklings is a game where the stars have been stolen from the sky by mysterious creatures known as Darklings. You play the role of Lum, a ghostly being, who has to defeat the Darklings and rescue the stars. Graphics are outstanding and play challenging.

The game has received high praise and in playing Darklings over the past few days, we can see why.

Evil Slayer is a Windows Phone game that hit Store shelves late last year and plays out a lot like a tower defense game. You just don't have any towers and your finger is the first line of defense.

The game has you tasked with protecting the local farm from an invasion of Zombies, demons and other monsters who are intent on stealing your pumpkins. You defend your crops by tapping on the monsters or setting traps to ruin their day. Evil Slayer is an entertaining gaming title with nice graphics, challenging game play and a pace that will give your fingers a workout. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, if you are in search of a fun game to pass the time with Evil Slayer is worth trying.

Age of Sparta, the newest free-to-play strategy game from publisher Gameloft, has made its debut today in the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store. Windows Phone puzzle games can be an enjoyable way to pass the time. Some games are fast paced to challenge your reflexes and sense of timing. Then other games require a little more thought in finding a solution. Rote is a relatively new Windows Phone game that falls more into the latter category.

The puzzle game has you guiding a ball down a path that is blocked by a series of boxes. You will have to shuffle the boxes around to create a path the ball can use to continue its travels. The concept is simple but as you will find, the solutions are not. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, Rote comes across as a quality addition to the Windows Phone puzzle game genre.

I, Gladiator is an action adventure Windows Phone game that has you playing the role of Rufus, a pawn that is caught in the middle of two warring Roman gods. To escape the clutches of the gods and regain control of his fate, Rufus must battle his way from the bottom of the gladiator hierarchy in a series of increasingly difficult tournaments.

I, Gladiator normally runs $2.99 but for the next twenty-four hours, through the myAppFree deal, you can pick the Windows Phone game up for free. Available for low-memory Windows Phones, the graphics look good, gaming controls are gesture based and in just tinkering with I, Gladiator for a short time the game comes across as an entertaining way to pass the time.

Blobb is a relatively new Windows Phone game that has you navigating a small green blob around a labyrinth of turns to reach star cookies that the creature has become addicted to.

The game includes 45 levels of play with the free version and an additional 30 levels of play can be unlocked via in-app purchase ($1.49). The graphics are decent and the puzzles challenging enough to keep things interesting. Available for low-memory devices, Blobb isn't a terrible option to consider if you are looking for some help passing the time but I couldn't help but think the game needed a little more something, something.

You probably already know that Windows Central streams Xbox games every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday night via Twitch. We even give out free copies of the games we stream on the weekends. We've built up a loyal community who tune in to see us play games, enjoy the commentary of the hosts, and chat with their fellow readers and viewers.

What you might not know is that I also stream non-Xbox games every Monday, just for fun. But tonight's stream will be special because we're streaming three games from popular Windows developer 10tons! We'll be playing Sparkle 2 and King Oddball (both for Windows Phone and Windows 8) and Crimsonland, a twin-stick shooter for Steam that will be coming to mobile Windows platforms soon.

Update: The stream has ended. Continue reading to see the full video replay, my impressions of each game, and a list of tonight's winners!

Spinballs is a Windows Phone game that hit the Store shelves earlier this month. The puzzle game has you shooting a ball across a wooden puzzle where it should eventually land in a basket. We were tipped on this game, it looked interesting and we took the plunge to see what it was all about.

The puzzles have trap doors, re-directs and other twists to add some degree of challenge to the game. The concept is decent but glitches with the graphics and a few other factors noticeably holds this Windows Phone game back. It is available for low-memory devices.

A few years ago, Microsoft partnered with Nokia and Aalto University to create the AppCampus. The initiative was created to help developers build new content for Windows Phone and has had tremendous success.

Some of the alumni of the AppCampus include Project Tripod, Dark Lands, Mash&Co. and Zombies got a Pogo. The collection of apps has grown so that the Windows Phone Store has an AppCampus Showcase Collection to highlight a few of the games that have darkened the campus hallways.

We have touched on this Collection before and felt it was time to revisit things and shine the spotlight on a few of these Windows Phone games for this week's Windows Central roundup.

The latest mobile gaming app hit is Trivia Crack, but its method of using questions supplied by its many players has created a backlog of questions that are still awaiting approval. The app, developed by Etermax, gets an average of one million questions per day submitted by users, according to the developer's founder Maximo Cavazzani.
