Microsoft wants your phone to act as a cheap PC and encompass more of your life than it does already. The two features of the Fone+ project mentioned specifically by MS Research honcho Craig Mundie were playing a video from your phone and have it show up in a TV, or using the TV as a display for the phone (those two features don't sound different to me).
