Heads Up: We'll be taking the blogs offline for a couple hours tonight as we push out some exciting site upgrades!

* Update: OK, We're back online! We're still working through some of the final upgrade steps, so don't mind the mess. We'll do a follow up blog post here soon going through the details as soon as we're done. Thanks for the patience! *

With so much changing in the world of Windows Phone, it only makes sense we make some changes around Windows Phone Central too.

We have lots of exciting upgrades planned for WPCentral.com, including enhancements to the blogs, forums, store and app. We'll be rolling out a full set of changes over the next week, and we're getting started tonight with some major updates to the blog.

We'll be taking the homepage offline at approximately 9pm ET for roughly two hours, as we push out an update to the our blog CMS along with a fresh new look for the site. We'll fill you in on the details once we're back up. During the upgrade the forums should still be accessible (if you're currently logged in) as will be the store

Thanks for the patience. And we'll be welcoming you back soon with a better than ever site!

  • Bring it on! Hope some metro design shows up here. And please give us that Windows 8 App.
  • Yesss!!
  • Good luck on the upgrades! Cant wait to see the new design. :)
  • Loving the new look. Great job.
  • Sweet new look. Now where's that Windows 8 App?
  • Sigh still no DISQUS :(
  • So Disqus is something we actually rolled out a while back on our sister site iMore, but it caused nothing but issues for us. Wasn't reliable.  They have improved since... but... We do have a lot more in store for commenting on the site, so I don't think you'll find it a big deal that we're not using Disqus.   We'll be rolling out our Mobile Nations Passport system soon (single account management for all our sites). With that, we'll be including authentication with Facebook, Twitter, Google and Microsoft accounts. So for new users, it's easy to create an account and join in on the comments. We'll also be rolling out more commenting features soon.. rating comments up and down, following comments, comment notifications, etc. We'll also be building in some features that go WAY beyond what Disqus can / will ever do, based on the focus of our sites. Think you'll like it.
  • Good stuff. I don't even get what's so special about disqus.
  • The only thing I like about Disqus is the comment notification - as that's already in the works I don't see any other compelling reason to use it.
  • BTW I wasn't able to comment via the WPC App... I received this error message:
    "Comment Error
Error posting comment: Bad authentication code. Try logging in again. please try again"
I tried restarting the app but it didn't change anything (it even crashed/exited to home screen twice on start-up)
  • Try to log out of the app, and then log in again.
  • Hey guys we're aware of the issues with the app and are working with our server gurus to get them sorted
  • Looks good!
