HTC Whitestone spied in Bluetooth docs

When it comes to learning about upcoming new hardware, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group is one of our favorite one-stop shops. Today we get wind of the HTC Whitestone [via wmpoweruser], which we originally saw leaked six months ago in that monster HTC roundup.

The Whitestone is the epitome of the HTC black slab form and looks to be a follow-up to the Touch HD. Let's hope HTC breaks from the past here and actually offers it in the United States. Rumored specs are a 3.6-inch touchscreen at 480x800, 256MB of RAM/512 of ROM, a Qualcomm 7600 processor at 528MHz. A 5-megapixel camera, aGPS and GSM and CDMA radios also have been mentioned. Verzion has been mentioned as a possible carrier.

The kickstand and 3.5mm headphone jack make this an obvious multimedia contender. But here's the thing: While the above specs are nothing to sneeze at in any phone on the market today, we know what's coming. Namely, the Zune HD (and that's now a confirmed Tegra proc under its hood, btw), and future Tegra- and Snapdragon-powered phones. Here's to hoping HTC can pull out some surprises later this year.

  • The Omnia II beats this with its bigger, better screen, onboard storage, DVD quality recording and 800Mhz processor, not to mention it will probably have a better camera as well. HTC will have to up their game considerably and stop making devices with yesterdays tech.
  • I'm looking past this and longingly looking forward to the Star and Super Star
  • I will love to have the Star, but I'm waiting for the Diamond 2 as an intermediate phone. I hope Sprint will offer the Diamond 2 or the Star.
  • @ THEEFMAN do you have a source for the OMNIA 2 CPU 800Mhz? i ask because the CPU's have not been confirmed for the OMNIA PRO and OMNIA 2. the only device they recently announced with a 800Mhz CPU is the "JET".
  • According to their published specs, its confirmed at least for the Omnia Pro.
  • again such a slow CPU ? How many years do they want to sell the old crap ? no Tegra ?
  • WTF? Slow!?! 800 mhz in a phone is pretty nice. Most of the best phones right now are 500-600 mhz. Tegra is 600 mhz ;P
