The Long Dark pits players against the wilderness in icy northern Canada amid unnaturally cold weather. After crash-landing, you're tasked with surviving the harsh realities of mother nature, fighting against the cold and wild animals as you hunt, fish, and generally try to stay alive. In addition to its signature survival mode, The Long Dark offers episodic content where you have to make tough decisions that impact other characters.

Today, the developer released another update — Steadfast Ranger — which brings with it a number of big fixes and new items to Survival Mode. You can take a look at the major additions below.

  • Revolver: A close-quarters defensive tool against hostile wildlife.
  • Birch Bark Tea: A slow-gain condition restoration item brewed from a renewable natural resource.
  • Energy Drink: Quick-shot Stamina and Fatigue boost, useful for getting yourself out of a variety of bad situations.
  • Improvised Cloth Wraps: Stave off Frostbite on your Head and Hands with these basic wraps.
  • Rifle and Shooting Gameplay: Completely overhauled shooting and aiming mechanics for the Rifle and other ranged tools.
  • Sprain System: Improved Sprain gameplay dynamics and first aid solutions.

The patch notes detail other changes which you can take a look at.

The Long Dark is available on Amazon for $20. This is just one of the many updates the title will receive in the coming months.
