Microsoft adds Italian and Mandarin to the Skype Translator Preview

The Skype team today announced an update for the Skype Translator Preview program, which kicked off just before the new year took hold. Today's release includes various improvements, as well as two new languages – Italian and Mandarin.

New features in today's update for the Skype Translator Preview include the option to hear instant messages received in the language of choice. Continuous text recognition is also available as the call partner speaks into the microphone.

Microsoft has made the change so volume controls are automatically adjusted for translated speech to be heard more clearly. This will prevent situations where you're finding it difficult to keep up with translations due to congested speech output from both the software and your call partner – or you can now turn the translated audio off completely.
