Microsoft updates Live on Windows Phone. Now integrates Twitter profile into People Hub.

New Twitter integration with Live and the People Hub. Left (New) and Right (Old).

Microsoft has evidently updated how Twitter interacts with Live services on Windows Phone by automatically pulling down a contact's Twitter profile an merging it into "Notes".

We're not sure when the change occurred but reader Kaush noticed the difference today which evidently happened when Windows Phone auto-syncs back to the server for contact updates. We managed to break out our international Titan (which we last used a few months ago) to quickly compare for a "before and after".

As an example, under Jay Bennett you can now see his Twitter profile integrated into Notes whereas the device on the right does not have that information.

While this is a small and subtle change, it is certainly good use of the Notes area which often goes unused.  So to our readers: is this something really new or have we just missed it?

Thanks, Kaush, for the tip!

  • Jay looks nothing like how I pictures him. Usually how it goes though.
  • You can watch him under our video Podcast section if you want to see him in full motion ;-)
  • If it helps that is a year old picture now ;)
  • I noticed this about 5 days ago whenI was linking a few contacts.
  • noticed, didnt care...
Add ability to follow and go to non followed profiles without opening the browser!
  • Don't be a buzzkill homes what the fuçk?
  • I agree dkp23 I would love it to open an app instead.
  • FYI the WPcentral info reads "All thing Windows Phone 7....." Need to fix that spelling error.
  • I haven't noticed "Map Home Address", "View Website" and a whole host of other details (where they work, job title, partners name etc) before, but a lot of that is coming out of FB solely. I only use the people hub to call or sms someone, so I probably overlooked all the extra junk in there :P
  • O yeah... Never really look at my twitter contacts on my people hub..
  • Ditto. I love carbon :)
  • I might be late to the party but I also noticed that Retweets now register in the Me Tile & you get notifications too. I got confused when I noticed multiple mentions from the same individual with the exact same message until i noticed at the top "retweeted by x".
  • Yeah I noticed that too, it's neat
  • Mine isn't showing any of that?
  • "We managed to break out our international Titan (which we last used a few months ago)..." What?! Why not using?I I would happily put the device to good use. : D
  • So is this just appending profile info from Twitter to the Notes section or overwriting what's already there (I don't have a Twitter acct to test)? I ask b/c I do use the Notes section for many of my contacts.
  • While integration is handy, its a bit cumbersome and the Twitter is almost useless. On one hand if someone stole my phone they might be impressed by contacts including Shaquille O'neal, Stephen Colbert, etc., I don't understand why my Twitter world needs to be part of my real world. Bad enough my contacts are populated with people who share my last name and may or may not be related to me courtesy of Facebook. I know I can hide them on my phone but hate that they've already integrated into my Live.
  • #firstworldpains
  • Just filter those contacts out.
  • as the man says, in fact I thought that filter was on by default. I have Twitter accounts linked to people I have in my contacts from otherwise, but I don't display all the twitter contacs in my Contacts list
  • Exactly. For me I don't have a single Twitter contact that I would want or need in my People Hub. While the integration may be nice for some, I prefer to keep Twitter in the Twittersphere and my Contacts as they are. Actually, the same goes for LinkedIn, which is filled with a lot of long ago business associates or contacts. Haven't taked to these people in 7+ years and don't expect to have the need to any time soon. If I do, I know where to find them in the LinkedIn app.
It's hard enough trying to manage Fackbook contacts. Don't need any more favors, thank you.
  • Maldito llorón!
  • Couldn't you just not sync your Twitter accounts with your phone? I don't see what the issue is here
  • As long as it doesn't mess with the existing notes, I'm happy. HTC sense for winmo 6 utilizes notes for Facebook and other data
  • Hm, I don't see this on my contacts.
  • I have a titan and I don't see any of that.. No notes
  • all that good stuff is showing up on my people hub.
i find it very interesting that MS can change a lot of these things on the backend, without updating the software itself. It makes me ask what else they could change on the back end. like, in the phone app, could they possibly add the length of past calls you've made?
  • I didn't know pressing an @ link takes you to a nice people job view as above, im sire it used to take you to the twitter mobile site
  • I don't see anything new. Is this region specific?
  • I wonder if this has something to do with my Hotmail accounts/Messenger disappearing from my phone  a couple days ago--just realized what those empty spaces were. :(
My primary uses are Gmail/Facebook/Twitter/Text so I didn't miss them immediately.
  • Nope, nothing there for me...
