Netflix is acquiring its third gaming studio

Netflix is continuing its expansion into gaming through acquisitions. On Thursday, Netflix announced that it is acquiring its third gaming studio by purchasing Boss Fight Entertainment.

"Boss Fight's mission is to bring simple, beautiful, and fun game experiences to our players wherever they want to play," said the founders of Boss Fight Entertainment in a press release. "Netflix's commitment to offer ad-free games as part of members' subscriptions enables game developers like us to focus on creating delightful game play without worrying about monetization. We couldn't be more excited to join Netflix at this early stage as we continue doing what we love to do while helping to shape the future of games on Netflix together."

Boss Fight Entertainment is a team of around 150 developers, with locations in Allen and Dallas, Texas, as well as Seattle Washington. The studio's prior work includes the mobile game Dungeon Boss. Netflix has steadily increased its gaming presence in the last few months, acquiring Oxenfree developer Night School Studio and Finnish mobile team Next Games in

"This studio's extensive experience building hit games across genres will help accelerate our ability to provide Netflix members with great games wherever they want to play them," said Amir Rahimi, VP of game studios at Netflix.

Rahimi goes on to note that Netflix is in the "early days" of building its gaming division and is committed to continuing through partnerships, increased hiring and more acquisitions.
