On February 4, Respawn Entertainment — now owned by EA — launched a battle royale shooter called Apex Legends. There were rumors that it would be a free-to-play version of Titanfall, but it's more along the lines of Overwatch than anything else. The most important piece of information to get out of the way is that the game seems to take place in the Titanfall universe, but it doesn't feature mechs or any other towering contraptions. It's a standard run-and-gun experience, where each character has various special abilities.

Today, Respawn announced a Valentine's Day event which features a lot of adorable items. For example, you can earn a "Live Die Live" badge if you revive a teammate until February 19. There are a lot of cosmetic items in the store like the "Through the Heart" Longbow skin and the "Love of the Game" banner. All of these items should start appearing in the gaming tonight.

The patch that adds the Valentine's Day event will also bring with it a number of fixes. Respawn shared details about the changes on Reddit. You can read about the important ones below.

  • Various improvements and tweaks to the interface.

  • Extended timeout that was causing players with slower hard drives to crash.

  • Addressed a number of client and server stability issues.

  • Fixed an exploit where you could keep duplicating items in your inventory.

  • Addressed a number of stability and performance issues.

  • Fixed an issue where players would get a gray screen in the lobby when connecting for the first time.

  • Fixed an issue where your friends list showed all your friends as offline and unable to party.

  • Shortened the duration of Bloodhound's Eye of the Allfather clones to remain in the world by a second.

  • Arc Star now displays a grenade warning indicator.

  • Addressed a number bugs with the Kings Canyon map geography like holes you could fall through and areas that players could get stuck.

It's great to see that Apex Legends is getting the polish it needs. A lot of other battle royale experiences are buggy even after months. Hopefully this trend will continue in the future.
