What you need to know

  • FromSoftware has released Patch 1.02.3 for Elden Ring on PC, which addresses an issue that prevented players from being able to use controllers with the game.
  • If players notice that they can't see some of their items in-game after the patch, FromSoftware says verifying the game's files will fix the issue.
  • Elden Ring's PC version still needs improvements, as players are widely experiencing many problems with framerate and stuttering.

Elden Ring is an incredible game, but unfortunately, its PC version shipped with a myriad of bugs and technical issues that have been making it difficult for players to enjoy. One of the biggest issues reported by players when the game launched was a bug that prevented Elden Ring from recognizing plugged in gamepads like Xbox One or Xbox Series Controllers. This essentially forced many PC users to use mouse and keyboard for Elden Ring, which is an input method that most players don't prefer when playing FromSoftware's action RPGs.

In the week following the launch of Elden Ring, its developers have been working hard to fix problems with the PC version, and thankfully, the newly-released Elden Ring Patch 1.02.3 resolves this one. After downloading a small 13MB update, all PC players should now be able to use a controller to play Elden Ring without trouble.

One downside of the patch is that it seems like some players may not be able to see some of their items after downloading it, but FromSoftware has confirmed that verifying Elden Ring's game files through the Steam client should resolve this issue. This process only takes a few minutes, so you won't have to wait long to get back into the Lands Between if you experience this glitch.

Overall, it's great to see that Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are working hard to improve the state of the PC version of Elden Ring, though if you haven't gotten the game yet, it might be better to wait before playing it on PC. Many players are still experiencing issues with framerates, stuttering, and more.

Elden Ring is finally here, and it's available for $60 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. It's one of the best Xbox games you can play right now if you're a fan of challenging RPGs, and we strongly recommend it.
