Should you buy Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remastered?

Should you buy Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remastered?

Best answer: Yes. For both new and returning fans, being able to play the game that started it all on your current console of choice is too good an opportunity to pass up. And its art style means it's aged like fine wine.Vault Hunters wanted: Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition ($30 at Microsoft)

What's included?

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remastered comes with the first Borderlands game and all four DLC packs including The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and Clatrap's New Robot Revolution.

In addition, Gearbox has also added new weapons, Gold Chests, and character cosmetics.

What enhancements does the remastered version have?

The remastered edition features 4K resolution support alongside improved character models, weapons, textures, redesigned menus, and more. Essentially it's your typical remaster with enhancements you've come to expect from these sorts of things over the years.

Does it feature any gameplay changes?

There aren't any major gameplay changes, but Gearbox has implemented some quality of life fixes to make your experience even better. The biggest of which may be its new and improved mini-map. Originally the game only supported a navigation compass like you'd see in Skyrim at the bottom of the screen. Gearbox also added 4-player split screen co-op and the ability to auto pickup ammo/money in bulk like in Borderlands 2.

Can't I just buy it for Xbox 360 since it's backward compatible?

Technically yes. The original Borderlands is backward compatible and comes with all DLC on Xbox One as a free download to boot. You could certainly dust off your old disc and pop it in, but it's well worth the $30 to buy the remastered edition. Not only does it support 4K resolution, but like I said before Gearbox packed it with new guns, new character heads, 4-player split screen, and even added a mini-map in addition to the navigation compass it originally sported. Plus, how could you pass up the opportunity to re-earn all of those sweet, sweet achievements?

Bottom line

Given the price that it's being sold at, it's almost a no-brainer to go ahead and pick this one up. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remastered offers a ton of updated content for players to experience—or re-experience—on Xbox One. And with Borderlands 3 on the way, it's the perfect time to get caught up on the game that kickstarted the series.
