Sprint gearing up to launch the HTC Touch Diamond: $299.99

Not that this is a huge surprise exactly what with all the leaked info from the past, but it sure looks like Sprint is getting ready to launch this in September for $299.99 (after MIR; MSRP is $549.99).

Nothing too shocking here, though the mention of Sprint's much derided MMS alternative (PictureMail) seems to be supported, though we wonder if this is the big update we've all be awaiting? Probably not.

  • At a full $100 more than the iPhone, and that only after a mail-in rebate, I think Sprint is screwing up.
    Again.
  • This is one of those rare times where we in Canada will be paying less than the US. It is only 450$ full price or 150 for a 3-year. Yeah Sprint screwed that up.
  • But with Sprint Simply Everything will set you back 100 a month as opposed to 150 for ATT. I'm waiting for the touch pro.
  • I'm going to call fake on that one

Sprint definitely needs to come in at the same price point (or better) than the iPhone if they expect to attract the masses.
And they had better pour on the advertising (a la Instinct). But really showcase the web browser, music, and Contact management features.
It wouldn't take much creative thought. All they need to do is look at the videos that HTC did when announcing it and then simply talk about how "revolutionary" it is. That word seems to work for Steve, so why not?
  • Word down the grape vine is that price will be dropped to $250 after MIR. Trying to get the proof for you guys but it seems to be on a N2KB. Some other price drops are being thrown around as well.
  • They need to drop it down to $199... it'll sell very well at $199. $249 was what the original touch went for last year.
If they want people to line up for the Diamond, they should price it at $149 or $179 on launch, that would have people lined up around buildings!
    $149, I'd buy two.
$199, I'd get one for myself
$249, I'd think about getting one for myself
$299, No way... I'll keep my money for a Tegra Phone.
