Over the weekend Windows Phone Central reported on a killer bug introduced in the latest Farm Frenzy 2 update. Since then, developer Alawar notified us that they are indeed aware of the problem and working on a fix. They also let us in on some good news: they have a new game on the Marketplace.

Farm Frenzy 2: Pizza Party is an expansion to the enjoyable Xbox Live game. But unlike its predecessor, Alawar has chosen to self-publish Pizza Party as a non-Xbox Live title. The decision seems to stem from Pizza Party’s similarity to Farm Frenzy 2; it is an expansion, not a true sequel. The Farm Frenzy series is already several games large on other platforms. By publishing this one as an indie title, Alawar can get Windows Phone caught up more quickly and without publishing too many similar Xbox Live releases.

Saved games gone?

Title updates are usually something to look forward to: they fix bugs, add new features, or restore an Xbox Live Achievement to working order. Sometimes things go awry though. Remember the Shuffle Party update that broke many of the game’s textures? Now we have an even worse example, as the Farm Frenzy 2 version 1.2 update has actually erased multiple people’s saves!

Among the many developers we’ve spoken with here at Casual Connect is Russia-based Alawar Entertainment. You might remember a little game they published to Xbox Live called Farm Frenzy 2. Well, sadly the Farm Frenzy 4 they’re currently promoting isn’t coming to Windows Phone just yet. But we do have a morsel of good news…

Officially, Alawar doesn’t have any new Windows Phone titles to announce. However, we believe they have a title brewing for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. Will it be a time management, hidden object, or puzzle game? Maybe they’re working on the country line dancing game the market has craved – nay, demanded for years now.

Windows Phone Central will reveal more details of Alawar’s next game in the months to come. Stay tuned, gamers!

Windows Phone Xbox Live Review: Farm Frenzy 2

Despite the importance of farming in sustaining human life, we don’t see many videogames built around the subject. Consoles have the long-running Harvest Moon series, but outside of a puzzle game spin-off, those games haven’t made their way to mobile phones, nor has time-waster Farmville landed on Windows Phone. Thankfully Russian developer Alawar Entertainment brings us Farm Frenzy 2 as an Xbox Live title. It provides an extremely casual version of agriculture rather than an actual simulation, but the theme and unique gameplay are still worthy of notice.

Last weeks’ three-peat sale might have left a bad taste in bargain hunters’ mouths, but this week’s special should wash that right out. Yes, Farm Frenzy 2 is now the Xbox Live Deal of the Week - for the first time. It’s currently $1.99, down from $2.99.

Farm Frenzy 2 is a light farm sim that plays a bit like a time management game. Keeping your animals alive, harvesting the goods they produce, battling off wild bears (the game was developed in Russia where I guess they have lots of bears?), selling goods at town, and having other supplies flown in… It’s all a day in the life of a farmer.

This here farmin’ game’s levels are nice and short, but shucks, finishing them quickly enough to earn the Gold medal can sure be a challenge. You might want to use this guide. Think of it as a Farmer’s Almanac!

Farm Frenzy 2 is on sale for $1.99 for one week only. Just watch out for bears on your way to the Marketplace.

A surprising number of late 2011 Xbox Live titles launched with broken Achievements: Battlewagon, Farm Frenzy 2, Fusion: Sentient, Hasta la Muerte, Let’s Golf 2, and MiniSquadron, to be precise. It’s a worrying trend, but at least several of those games’ developers have committed to fixing the problem unlockables. It’s like a race to kill the bugs!

The first developer on the list to get their Achievements in order? Alawar, the Russian makers of Farm Frenzy 2. Thanks to the game’s version 1.1 update, the broken Achievement ‘Moment of Truth’ can now be unlocked. In fact, players who completed the requirements (unlocking all other Achievements) before the patch will find it unlocks instantly after launching the updated game. How convenient!

Farm Frenzy 2 is an unusual strategy/time management game developed in far-off Russia. We’ll be reviewing it very soon. The game costs $2.99 and there is a free trial – get it here on the Marketplace.

As for the other glitched games – a little birdie tells me that Battlewagon’s update will roll out next. As always, WPCentral will keep you posted.

Ready for a hoedown? Farm Frenzy 2, the first Russian-developed Xbox Live game, is now available on Xbox Live. Yes, apparently Russia isn’t all ice and Tetris pieces. They also have farms!

Farm Frenzy 2 is a light farm sim that plays a bit like a time management game. Farm Frenzy 2’s levels are nice and short, but finishing them quickly enough to earn the Gold medal can be a real challenge. Whether you went to the A & M university in your state or a real school, give it a try.

And don't forget, Tetris the Xbox Live Deal of the Week. It joins Sonic 4, Full House Poker, and Assassin's Creed, which are also on sale this week.

It seems like only yesterday we were discussing Farm Frenzy 2’s Achievements… Actually, it was three days ago, but that’s still pretty close, and three is prime number just like one. Anyway, speak of the devil, Farm Frenzy 2 is tomorrow’s Xbox Live release.

Farm Frenzy 2 is a casual farm simulator from Russian developer Alawar Entertainment. The game may not be much to look at (ouch, that Live tile!) and who cares about farms? But the game is surprisingly fun;I’m already digging it more than this month’s previous releases.

Most levels have multiple goals, but they almost always involve keeping your animals alive and happy. To do that, you plant grass. When the water for grass seeds runs out, you go to the well and buy more. Happy animals produce eggs and such, which you can then sell or use to make flour and other products. Levels are nice and short, perfect for mobile play. By beating levels, you earn stars to spend on all kinds of upgrades for the farm. It's more fun than a barrel of chickens!

Farm Frenzy 2 debuts on Wednesday, November 23. It will cost $2.99.

Thanks to Dark Synopsis for the tip!
