lumia 800

Even more good news for those emerging markets, Nokia Bangladesh has confirmed via Facebook that the Lumia 800 will be coming to that country in February 2012.

"Dear All the Nokia Fans: good news is that Nokia Lumia 800 will be available in Bangladesh starting from February,2012. Another good news is that this device will come with Windows Mango software not WP7.Lets wait for the device..Surely it will rock you.."

That's an interesting date because it's the first 2012 time-frame we've heard and could signal when Nokia plans to launch, in quantity, Nokia Windows Phones to the rest of the world--and yes we also mean the United States.

Fingers crossed.

The Nokia Lumia 800, which was announced yesterday at Nokia World, was seen featured on BMF TV in 'Geek Culture'. It's compared to the iPhone and is labelled as a "challenger" against Apple's handset by Anicet Mbida. It's good to see the 800 being featured on technology shows so soon after being officially announced with availability and pricing

It's no secret that the Lumia 800 is a Nokia N9 with a different OS flashed on it, some capacitive buttons and a camera key--in fact we've seen both devices side by side here and they're the same device in every which way.

So it's kind of cool to see just how the N9's body is precision tooled in Nokia's factory in this above video. In it you see how some parts are drilled, honed and then put together by hand, reinforcing the notion that Nokia means quality.

Nokia Lumia 800 hands on [Video]

And just like with the 710, we got some hands on time with the much acclaimed Nokia 800 Lumia--but this time in a more quiet and better lit environment, thank you Nokia.

The device is pretty smashing. The screen really is one of the best we've ever seen both in terms of color ("wet" blacks) and just how it pops up at you. The touch sensitivity, always a finicky setting, seems perfect to us on the device as well. The unibody design makes it truly an elegant piece of art  and with a top notch camera, really makes this an excellent device.

Needless to say, we want one. Bad.

For those who are on Orange France, you'll want to take a look at this deal from The Phone House. If you pre-order it today they'll also throw in a free pair of those Monster headphones valued at € 199. You can order it without a contract for € 499 or with for € 99, which seems like quite the deal to us.

Word of warning though on those Monster headphones...we're not liking the stability of the jack end as far as the cable goes. Other than that, sound quality is excellent.

Nokia announces the Lumia 800

Tell us you every thought you'd see something like this with Windows Phone, and we'll eat your old WinMo device. Nokia today in London at Nokia World (we're all up in that, by the way) announced the Lumia 800. To say it's visually stunning is probably the understatement of the year. Let's flesh it out:

  • Single-piece body.
  • 3.7-inch AMOLED display at 800x480 resolution, with the glass seamlessly melting into the body
  • 1.4 GHz Qualcomm MSM 8255 processor with hardware acceleration
  • Windows Phone 7 Mango
  • 1450 mAh battery
  • 16GB internal storage, 512MB programmable memory
  • Quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900); quad-band 3G (850/900/1900/2100); 14.4Mbps
  • 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens and LED flash
  • 720p video capture at 30 fps
  • Dimensions: 116.5 x 61.2 x 12.1 mm
  • Weight: 142 grams
  • Wifi: 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • aGPS

Plus a bunch of Nokia services thrown in, including Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Music and Mix Radio. Plus all the Xbox support we've come to expect, and Internet Explorer 9. Look for it to for 420 Euros.

Look at what we have here, leaking clearly out of a development factory in either China or Hong Kong (forgive us, it's 2am), we get a nice clear look at the Nokia N9, cough, 'Sea Ray' for Windows Phone 7. We can finally see the buttons near the bottom, putting to rest the "virtual button "speculation from earlier.

Watch as halfway through the video the device even boots up with a new "7" logo screen and it pops in a build of Mango (check out the Mango lock screen, natch). The camera also boots up quickly and we get the first glimpse of what that will be like.

Updates: We also have word that this version of Mango is RTM aka release to manufacturer, meaning this may be pretty close to final for everything. Specifically it is build 7710 (Thanks, anon).

By the looks of it, no front facing camera. In fact, in the camera app we should see the camera toggle, like here.
