Unannounced Lumia 650 firmware spotted on Microsoft servers along with European destinations

At this time, it is no secret that the Lumia 650 is on its way from Microsoft as a budget Windows Phone aimed at mass business purchases. In fact, our earlier reporting suggests that Microsoft will announce the phone this Monday.

Now, a new ROM tool created by 'Cholens' over at XDA lets you see what is on Microsoft's servers including some ROMs for the Lumia 650 destined for Europe.

Heading to www.lumiafirmware.com and looking for RM-1152 and you can see over two dozen ROMs for the Lumia 650. Users can even download the ROMs and associated files for deeper analysis. Not much else can be discerned from the files, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Going by the ROM and firmware listing it does look like Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Romania, Netherlands, and a few other countries will be getting the Lumia 650 in a couple of weeks.

Lumia 650 Specifications (unofficial)

  • Windows 10 Mobile
  • Colors: Matte White or Matte Black
  • 5-inch 720p display
  • Snapdragon 212 processor at 1.3GHz
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB of storage (maybe 16GB) with micro SD expansion
  • 5MP front-facing camera; 8MP rear with LED flash

Unfortunately, there are no listings for the US or North America, but at this time, there is not enough information to make any conclusions.

Hopefully, Microsoft will be filling in any missing details in the next few days.

  • It's a nice looking phone. I hope the price is just MSRP, and it is really sold on discounted sale prices.
  • You beat me to a nice looking phone but I hate that on screen home bottom
  • Just wanting to give a tip to my experience with wm10tp ...it works alot better with the Microsoft branded phones....i had it on my my 1020 and 925 since the beginning and it ran like crap (battery life unusable, creating folders wouldn't work, wired reboots, camera crash, no rich capture, etc) but now!!!!! On this 640 I got because my wife was tired of my phone being dead or needing a charge all the time or drained every 3 hrs even with no Usage...I have been in HEAVEN (all day battery life, no reboots, no resume, no camera glitches, rich capture is present, and the wonderful list goes on etc.) I've realized for Microsoft not to fail with wm10 they must make sure the old Nokia phones are going to be consistent when update...that us the reason for the technical preview, to make sure the old phone will be able to handle the update.....from my experience my other 2 Nokia Lumia struggled.... #640ftw can't wait for possible surface phone...if it does not happen #950xl is my next phone..
  • So true. That's why I ditched my beloved 920 and using 640. I wish 640 had a little better camera,a little better screen and a little better design with a little bigger price tag. Then it would have been best windows phone ! After 1520 , it's my favorite
  • The 640 is the litle phone that can.  Amazing value. You can GIVE them away to grandkids just to play Mario on. Without a SIM they are still awesome little W10M handheld computers that connect to the world and the cloud.  I have a 7 year old that loves taking pictures. For her it's just a camera with some fun editing software and she can share her work with her friends and family.
  • It really is insane what they can do for the price if you think about the technology that existed even 15 years ago when I was growing up. I couldn't get a device that could play games, music, take pictures, etc for the $30 off-contract you can find a 640 for these days.
  • Lucky you Americans. Here in Eastern EU 640 has 160€ (~185$) pricetag. :(
  • USA - Land of the Cheap (thanks to that glorious slave labour of other countries).
  • Your are right absolutely... I have better experience on ML540 than NL730.
  • So many nonsense at one place... I can't take it anymore. Use a 950xl and you"ll meet the 1020 battery. Don 't compare flagship's amoled with a low cost. Your comment is dung. I know how the 640 battery is incredible but in the same time i know that this battery life can't be reached with an 810 snapdragon or an s4... Now,let's grow up.
  • Dude that's my about wm10 the os just needs to be configured properly for all types of hardware...and if chipset is my problem with how fast I was losing battery.. Then I'm sticking with my 640 that runs perfectly....OH!! Wait I ran it on my Lumia 520 also and it ran like crap...and that's not a heavy power chipset...and also my comparison was old Lumia's to Microsoft Lumia's... Not budget to flagship..
  •   Wow, thanks. I really support your words, it can make me crazy all this funny and in the same time stupid words, and ideas. People compare everything in a bigmix without realistic thinking.
  • Bring on the Surface phone!.... Please just let MS offer it in 5.2", 5.7", and 6.2" sizes... Please.
    #mostlikelynotgonnahappenbecausefansarepussses.
  • It is priced higher than 640 though. I wonder what MS is thinking. 640 users won't upgrade to this one.
  • Why, I think a lot of people want to upgrade, it´s really a nice phone, and still small money.
  • Sorry, off topic.. Are there any chances for "Live lock screen" to ever get updated or made for W10M? Does anybody knows anything regarding this? I wish it was supported..
  • Probably by brilligiest studios
  • Lol isn't that the app that causes the "loading..." issues?
  • Yes! :D Exactly that app.. It was a pretty good project. I wonder why it was closed and never updated even once.. At least they could have fixed the 'resuming' bug and then left off.. Damn!! So much of efforts gone in vain..
  • Ask rudy...he said he had an update waiting for it but he wasnt allowed to push it.What a shame that Microsoft demoed live lock screen on a big stage and then failed to deliver.
  • I only tried it a briefly but on a 1020 I remember it being pretty bad - Never got to try it on the 930, maybe it was just the poor specs of the 1020 (minus the camera sensor) though
  • It's sad, I like this app a lot.
  • nyc. Waiting
  • You beat me to it. Daniel we need to know why you and 3 other journalists were in NYC
  • Shopping trip.
  • SD card 16 Gb?
  • No, it means that it's probably 16GB instead of 8GB internal storage. The Micro SD will take the max available size, the same as all other Lumia's.
  • 8 or 16 Gigs of onboard storage.
  • Hopefully 16.
  • No use... Windows Phone is completely dead. Soon We will see an article here.. "Microsoft Finally Shuts down The Windows Mobile Division after 0 progress in last 4 years" :-) EAGRLY WAITING FOR THIS CRAP OS TO SHUT DOWN.
  • I'll enjoy watching you wait for a very long time. I'll enjoy even more not writing that article and continuing writing about new W10M developments. Cheers!
  • We'll see :-) I was also A REAL WP fan, but after 3 years of convincing myself.. I'm tired :-) 3 years is a serious long time for an OS to grow up... :-)
  • So take a nap!
  • You're still here. So you haven't completely broke up yet. :) Or you are a sad sadistic?   Only you know which.
  • Try to remember Android and phones 5 - 6 years go, terrible and mountains of problems - really NODROID phones an terrible, minimalistic OS and phones. WP 10 actuallygreat. Even today phones with Android is buggy and with many problems. Ad the Apple the same, all of them have these problems, because OS and phones change every thee month´s. There is no time for making it stable and relyable, constantly new programming and bugs will be there.
  • Is the Universal WCentral app still on track for release by end of this week?
  • Probably bynext year because people are storming the forums on why there is no black theme
  • I tried the black theme on Microsoft's News app, and it really doesn't work well on there - I do like it on the current WC app, but the new one looks like it will work better with a light theme anyway.
  • Today Feb,13 2016, India is complete ONE YEAR of Windows 10 Mobile Technical preview.. And WE ALL KNOW IT'S STILL INSANELY BUGGY AND UNUSABLE. Can you imagine one year... And still very buggy, this shows the progress :-)
  • Rather we all know you're full of it ;)
  • Yes I'm completely fed up.. If WP really grows up with everything amazing. I would surely love to come back :-) Unfortunately I just don't see that "amazing" anywhere as of now...
  • Okay, you have a special problem there, here in Europe it works well. But I need to say, many low end phones had problems until now. We install a lot of phones with WP 10.
  • You know it's buggy, but when I tried Lumia 950 in my country, it's buttery smooth with no lag/bugs dealbreaking my deal.
  • nailed it :) good job
  • An interesting article would be why it is that many W10M users are often waiting for more. We see this frustration alot on the blogs.
  • Yes you are right, they only have a phone life, terrible, like children.
  • @Kamesh Kotwani, and you've taken the time to post a comment about a "dead o/s" it. Hmm, what does that say I wonder? :P Honestly, give all this agro a break and enjoy life. Use what feels right for you and just because others may not agree doesn't mean their wrong. There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to a o/s / ecosystem.
  • No.. It's a healthy conversation.. There is no hatred.. Just frustration of consecutive 3 years of convincing which is coming out all at once :-)
  • Even though 0.3% of the world still uses Blackberry doesn't mean that BB10 is a dead OS either. Everyone has their own platform that they prefer. STOP HATING AND START LOVING
  • THEY ALSO shifted to..????????? I hope you know:-)
  • Lagdroid? It's because of their lack of confidence. Microsoft? Well, unfortunately (for you), they showed their confidence of their Continuum on Windows 10.
  • UR TALKIN BLX M8. IT AINT ABOUT DA OS OR THEM PHONES ITS ABOUT WINDOWS OS EVERYWHERE AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. PHONES AS A PLATFORM, AS A CONCEPT, IS DEAD. WHILE SAMSUNG AND APPLE ARE TWEAKING, REFINING AND SLIMMING DOWN THERE DEVICES, MS IS PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE. IT'S A QUESTION OF LONG-TERM STRATEGY VS SHORT-TERM STRATEGY. THANKS.
  • @MarkStent. Your poor keyboard... :P. You need to fix your caps lock, it's broken :).
  • I was mad. Thanks.
  • I can understand that especially since people like you and me are encouraging our Android friends to switch over  and then some dude comes and says that W10M is a dead platform.
  • How many of your friends actually switched? I can bet you if even one of them might have.. He might be cursing you like hell :-) save yourself from that.
  • 15 malware-stricken friends and colleagues in 12 months, while three were leaving (including my rich neighbours daughter, who got an iPhone 6 from her 20-minutes-a-week dad).
  • I have 3 friends switched to Windows Phone since few first months I had my Lumia 620. And since I use one of those Android device, up until now I haven't convinced my friends to switch over. Windows wins.
  • Don't feed the troll guys! ☺
  • @kamesh Just go and drown yourself in the polluted android river then.
  • Soon you will also :-) I still use WP a Lumia 720 cuz I can't afford any phone right now.. And it's just a 3 years of frustration WP has given me :-) no hatred :-)
  • If you put wm10 on a 512mb device and compare it with other devices, you are mistaken sir. Wm10 is better than android and ios in many many ways.
  • Any WP exclusive App that iOS and Android don't have? Any??
  • Honestly, how many apps does a sane person need?
  • That is not the ANSWER of my question.. CORTANA AVAILABLE FOR BOTH. WORD FLOW ON THE WAY FOR BOTH. MICROSOFT'S OWN APPS ARE MORE IN OTHERS RATHER THAN IT'S OWN PLATFORM. :-)
  • Does it degrade your usage experience? If ms supplies apps to other platforms does it harm you eh?
  • It harms the loyal WP users :-) not me :-) or even you.. It harms the share of WP. It hurts the development of WP. I'm perfectly fine and you are also fine :-) so goodnight :-)
  • Microsoft Camera. You won't find any app better than that for taking pictures
  • And, don't forget that it has manual focusing capability. Not all current high-end Android (and even iPhone) phones have this capability.
  • Yes. Completely exclusive. Which ones? The ones we have written in-house at a corproate level because W10 Universal Apps is by far the best oppurtunity for developing software to FINALLY replace our old legacy corporate software. 1 Example: Our Corporate Jet Fleet tracking and status app. We literally GIVE L640's away to our customers with our app(s) on it. At ~$3000 per hours to fly, the cost of the phone is moot. And the apps can be run on ANYTHING running Windows 10. You see, you don't really see the whole picture. And that's ok. But there is so much more going on than Snapchat in this big world. And we are grateful that Microsoft's current vision doesn't require instant market share in the Iphone-Droid world.
  • Well said!
  • This!
  • Windows 10 sucks on a device with half a gigabyte of ram. If fact any device that has half a gig of ram sucks Posted via the Windows Central App for Android on my Lumia 950 XL
  • no way @Pallav please don't say that. @kamesh should just go to basic flip phone and drown in the polluted Symbian river
  • I would prefer iOS which Microsoft itself loves and support it more than it's OWN OS :-)
  • So the river you went in was already polluted ;)
  • By Microsoft Apps :-) yes! It was :-)
  • Not so. I'm having my own Microsoft apps being unreliable on Android. So... Windows is still better!
  • No it's not :D Posted via the Windows Central App for Android on my Lumia 950 XL
  • Win10 mobile never dies! And that is because it is already part of eco systems of universal hardware and software. MS cannot kill w10m even if they want to!
  • YOu are correct that its part of the strategy and for that reason alone won't be killed. But they sure as hell can if they want.
  • We get your frustrations, we share them but you are really short sighted, like so many round here. The younger generation expecting everything in an instant, because that's the norm. MS develop stuff for the other platforms because it generates revenue and interest in the MS brand. At best you're a sensationalist troll.
  • If they want people to use MS brand then WHY Apps are much. Better in others.. WHY THEY ARE unpolished in Microsoft's own OS. DON'T you think that would have actually made people buy WP?
  • Agree agree. Apps is the problem of this OS.
  • ...until Continuum showed off on Windows 10.
  • Legends tell MSFT apps are greener on the other side story. OneDrive app in Droid is awful, takes my login only after numerous tries; the crappy WLAN on my Nexus doesn't help either. The Office apps on iOS are 365 apps, paid for and expected to have more features; fact is, they actually have not. Mail is the old Acompli app from iOS, the only feature I miss is having the app use my signature from Outlook.com. Only Skype is a real shame in w10, but it was the fan base that called for "deeper integration"; here we go, and it's a sad example of giving to much of a **** about the inexperienced userbase. The other apps are finally getting better with every release, and UWP will hopefully end the endless reinvention cycle. The only apps I miss in general are two apps for my Fritz!box, and the Lego Elves companion, where my daughter is driving me nuts about. I spoke with some guys making apps, they are waiting for W10M running their Android APKs unchanged... Cancelling Astoria is a disaster.
  • Not trying to bash you or anything, but you do know that once or twice or even many times, many users gave negative votes to Windows CE, Windows Mobile and says it was dead too, but still remained until now. :)
  • you said you've left Windows yet still lurking around here means you still have that love deep down inside your heart... you just have a problem admitting it
  • Wtf are you doing commenting so angrily on a post like this if you think it's absolutely useless? Go mind your own business and stop being a troll in posts where people actually care about WM.
  • Gurl dream on.
  • Interesting, sure looks like the launch of the 650 is imminent. Perhaps a MWC launch?
  • Rumours say in 3 days lol but don't you worry, it's Coming Soon ™
  • Meh :/
  • Brilliant input - your comment has solved all issues here :/
  • Not just here, im seeing world wide improvement already.
  • Lol
  • Whatever happened to that 950 xl firmware that was rolling out? Last I heard it was a European carrier.
  • Yeah. Not got it still!
  • Hey I just got my Lumia 950 yesterday and I'm having problems with brightness toggle in ACTION CENTRE. My older Lumia 930 and 1320 both have the following 4 settings: AUTO, LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH wheras the MS Lumia 950 only has 25%, 50%, 75%, AND 100% what happened there?
  • Go to settings>system>display, there's a brightness slider there.
  • Automatically adjust display brightness is toggled on by default. Selecting the % adjusts brightness manually but if auto is toggled on it will continue adjusting it just fine.
  • I got it already a while ago
  • What model(carrier or unlocked) and when? What version firmware do you have now?
  • I wonder what, besides looking gorgeous, the 650 will bring to the table to make it more attractive than the 640...
  • Metal frame and AMOLED screen?
  • Yes. Well, metal frame and AMOLED screen are part of the 'looking gorgeous' for me
  • More powerful CPU, more internal storage and better set of cameras
  • Well yes, you guys are right. And of course w10 out of the box. And 16gb (probably). Just wish it had a better camera though... I mean 8 mp? Really?
  • I think it's probably meant to be the high end of the budget/value segment, which explains the camera. Still debating if I want to give this a whirl or not.
  • Notifiable actionifications? I'm probably aiming too high.
  • And what about 650xl? No large phone? No better camera? Microsoft getting really strange. Or... they don't care any more.
  • *sigh* they're leaving room for other manufacturers and that strategy is already starting to pay off
  • This probably might be the last one in the Lumia line so...there isnt any good news about L650xl :-(
  • Soon
  • Where is Lumia 750? The 7xx lies right at the centre of budget and performance with Snapdragon 4xx processors. When will Microsoft understand this?
  • they leave it for the other OEMs
  • I don't really care about this particular phone, but the new firmware tool looks interesting.
  • God dammit. Why must my contract for my Lumia 630 end in August. This phone look's so good -_-
  • Ask to buy out your remaining contract and ask for the best discount. I bought out my reaming 3 months and got a 30% discount. So for about 2 months payment I ended my then current contract and signed up for a new contract with a new phone. I sold my old phone for more than buying out the contract too. So it made me profit too. Just an idea :)
  • Why even have a contract when the phone is not that expensive won´t you get a better deal if you bought the phone outright
  • It depends. Here in Canada, postpaid plans cost the same if you bought the phone outright and took a postpaid plan for it. (So you would save getting the phone subsidised.) The way to save here in Canada is to go prepaid. I have the L635 bought outright in September 2014 and I'm on a prepaid plan where I load it with $10 a month. Definitely planning to keep it until September this year (exactly 2 years).
  • How do I find out which exact variant of a device I have? I've been through 'about' and 'extras + Info' but nothing seems to directly correspond to the variants on that website....
  • Extras & info > Manufacturer name. That would be your country variant.
  • Ignore me... Forgot it was as simple as taking the back cover off and looking at the product code. Lol!
  • I don't understand why Mac users, which are nothing compared to Windows ones, are seen like cool peaple, a niche of real tech experts, whilst if Windows Phone which isn't even close to IOS/Android market share, is seen as a failure...I feel instead like a expert, one of the few who really understand things using the best mobile OS and the best Phone(950XL) available
  • You should change your user name to genius. But don't tell too many Lagdroid or iSheep otherwise we won't be so niche cool :)
  • I agree
  • I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned that there's possibly an orange version?! Edit: Oh, they probably mean Orange the company. Welp.
  • Actually, they meant the fruit. Buy this phone and get a free basket of oranges. It's the healthiest phone on the market. ^.^
  • Haha
  • Lemons we had already.
  • Give it a faster processor like a snapdragon 6xx and at least 2 gigs off ram for maximum 150€ and we have a decent phone with o it's own niche and consumers who are willing to buy it!
  • Looks like an amazing business phone. I'd love to use that device. Unfortunately, the only wrong thing with it is the OS.
  • Looks a bit like an iPhone 4s
  • How ?
  • Something came up today that I can't find an answer for. Do phones like the 650 and Alcatel Fierce XL running the 210/212 processer support Miracast?
  • How many do you have at the moment? I've got a 435, 930 and 950, got rid of my 1020 recently and thinking of selling the 930. Then I'll still have a bottom end device to test with and a high end
  • Thanks, I guess I'll know for sure tomorrow. I'm going to give the Alcatel a try. Nothing like another "Dead" phone to play with.
  • To be fair, it's a damn nice looking phone for something in the budget range. Would need to hold one to get a proper idea of weight and thickness.
  • Don't know about weight, but thickness will be ~6.5-7mm.
  • I wish they had made more advancements to the year old 640 than just putting a metal ring on it. Basically the same specs as last year, except a lower CPU. Still love the look though, if WM10 gets better I might grab one of these for fun, but I just traded in my 950 so I will just have to watch the updates.
  • Just another Lumia 535..Microsoft should increase internal storage space to 16GB and 2GB RAM
  • Official release of Windows10 is around the corner for older Lumia phones? Or we should not expect anything¿
  • Snapdragon 212 is better than the 400?
  • Actually it is, or at least better than 400 variant used in 640. It is faster and supports new features.
  • Does anybody know if it does or doesn't support windows hello?
  • When in India?
  • On wmpowerusers there is a news about Windows 10 rolling out for Lumia 535 in Egypt.
  • I really want a Lumia with Windows 10. I may have to fix my Nokia Lumia 928. Needs new LCD screen. Posted via Galaxy Note 4
  • No need to wait for a budget friendly W10M phone if you're on TMO, I highly recommend the Alcatel One Touch Fierce XL. Just got one and IMHO at$140.00 it's a lot of phone. Check out the specs and remember who owns 80% of Alcatel ☺
  • Look wise a great smart cell phone let's see what Microsoft had made.
  • Hmm...nice looking mobile...but i think it may cost higher price in India....if so then no one care it
  • What is MWC?
  • Mobile World Congress, held in March every year in Barcelona (cmiiw)
  • Design looks like iPhone 5s
  • They do look pretty nice...
  • Windows 10, latest version on my lumia 1020 is.. 9/10!!!!  well..cant give 10/10 - battery sucks. I use a lot of my phone, 30-50talks per day, mail, viber, skype, web.  From 08 to 17h beraly manages. While i had my wireless charging case, i didnt noticed i have battery prtoblems ;) i didnt. Sciene it broke... i'm cable addictive person  ;)  :)))  But, evrything goes so smooooth on my Lumia 1020 that i can say that if YOR PHONE DOESNT WORK WELL, DELETE ALL APS, and install only the necessery. I have norticed this on my phone. Some of the apps (i dont know) ware trouble makers. Scinece i installed only those i need/use, no problems!
  • I want this phone so much, because It's so good looking, but my contract ends in August :(
  • Cant you afford to buy it off contract?
  • I'm running latest preview on my Nokia Lumia 1520 - and the battery life is fine - pretty much same as 8.1. The first preview had lots of problems so I reverted and stayed off for a lot of builds. I been back on the preview for about the last 3 or 4 preview builds and it is improving. I'm thinking now that I'm going to need a firmware update to fix remaining issues.
  • I didn't like snapdragon 212. In lumia 640 it is snapdragon 400
  • Metal body ..! Idea is good but that pynt is looking good & microsoft should use oled glorilla 3/4 glass in screen that would be suprb design by microsft
  • @Kamesh Kotwani   Please don't say your opinion any more. I don't care. You are borring IMHO.
  • That device remindes me on Italian cars. Cute, handsome, but underneeth huge gape. I would like, for the fair price, to have beautiful and powerfull device. With lots of possibilities (as money can get). Microsoft is selling us (just like apple) too little for the price tag. Dont't like Android either. When Microsoft will gave me that i'll follow them with my wallet. Clean, pure love. Don9t like Microsoft but i belive in potentional in them.
  • Very nice looking.
