Weather Flow for Windows 8 and Windows Phone updated and improved

Good news if you’re a fan of the wildly popular Weather Flow apps for your Windows Phone or Windows 8/RT as both apps have received updates to help make the experience bettter.

First up, the Windows Phone version gets a nice bump for all of those on 7.8 and who want a fancy double wide tile. Version 1.5 now adds the ability to have Rich or Metro double wide tiles, including minimal data or the full weather cast for the week, matching the Windows Phone 8 abilities.

The Windows RT version (v1.2) gets a similar update with its Live Tiles finally getting overhauled and offering the same Metro or Rich tile experience along with the ability to select details. In addition, the app has been made much more efficient with RT users in mind, meaning your Surface folks should give this another try.

Finally, both apps now support 10 languages including:

  • English
  • German
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Dutch
  • Polish
  • Russian
  • Swedish
  • Chinese Traditional

Overall, not a bad series of updates and even we’ve started using Weather Flow on our Windows 8 and RT machines, enjoying the new look of the Tiles. You can pick up Weather Flow with a free trial here in the Windows Phone Store or give the Windows RT version a spin here (opens in new tab) in that Store ($1.99).

  • That looks like an Acer Iconia W5 (w500) or maybe W7.
  • Excuse me please...Can you tell me what tablet that is there in the photo???
  • Its a Acer iconia w510
  • If only I could load WP8 onto that; would make a nice complement to my Lumia 920 :)
  • Win8 not good enough for ya? :)
I'm glad to see much wp stuff getting ported to win8 with windows blue, though.. :)

  • Weather Flow on windows phone lets you choose your picture album as lock screen which no other app can do currently which makes this most advanced as per my needs.
  • How's the lock screen updating? How often does it update? Weather Wallpaper lets you use your own pictures as a background too.
  • Actually Lock Widget let's you use your own pictures as well.
  • but only one at a time, right? WeatherFlow can do whole folders.
  • one of the best apps on Windows Phone 8, they should put in a battery indicator and the lockscreen will be complete
  • Just use (one of the 5) the lock screen quick status slots as your battery indicator to get that effect.  (I'm not sure if you need a battery drain indicator on your phone too, but I use Battery Sense, which works wonders.)
  • I'm still shocked by the sheer amount of quality weather apps on WP/W8.
  • Lol .. Yeah . And most of them are much better than Android/iOS counterparts
  • That app kills my battery
  • On Windows 8 or WP8?  I have it on WP8 and never noticed any problems with battery draining related to this app.
  • had to disable GPS myself, it really eats up quite a bit, but heck I don't like any onther better.. :)
  • Daniel what tablet is that!? It's effing gorgeous!
  • Would be awesome if weather flow added a battery status, save me a lock screen notification spot.  Using lock widget right now, but like weather flow more
  • This app is excellent. Thanks WPC for the news now I can update it now instead of waiting until tomorrow :)
  • Has been my lock screen app since WP first did an article on it. Absolutely love it.
  • You and me both. This is a great app!
  • Same!
  • Finally!  one month without service and today this app works again.
  • Still the best looking lock screen weather app on WP8! Highly recommended!
  • It is better indeed, but there is more work in need.
  • love my wp version. had no idea they had a rt app. gonna have to pick it up
  • Did I miss something? There was no mention of what changes were done for WP8 but I received an update on my 920.
  • Yes, you must have not read the article
  • Says updates for 7.8. Not 8.....maybe wp8 just got language support. Doesn't quite read that way.
  • No maps, no download.
  • We need a weather app roundup. Weather Flow vs. Amazing Weather HD etc.
  • http://www.wpcentral.com/best-weather-apps-your-windows-phone This is from about a year ago, but it can give you some insight.
  • Please people support devs like this who put their all into their windows apps.
  • I bought an Acer Iconia W700 on the basis of how stunning it looks on this site (I got the i3 version; I don't need any more).  I can't wait any longer for the Surface Pro in the UK and the Dell XPS 12 is just that little bit too expensive.
  • Anyone else having updating issues with this app on the WP8? It just updates on its own accord even when the setting is changed to manual and kills my battery!
Also, there are different updating times for the live tiles and the lock screen notification. They just freakin update on their own! I love this app but its eating my battery up! :(
