Windows Central Android app updated for login bugfix

A quick heads up for those of you out there who use the Android app for Windows Central. We've pushed out a fix for a nasty login bug that was, well, keeping you from being able to log in. (Turns out it was one stray instance of "wpcentral" still in the code.) The update is available now through Google Play. So get it, and get back to commenting on our stories!

And if you haven't tried out our Android app (we know more than a few of you have phones and tablets with that ... other operating system) now's a perfect time! And we're hard at work on a Material Design update, so it's only going to get better!

Download the Windows Central app for Android! (opens in new tab)

  • Why exactly is this on windows central? Shouldn't android news be on android central
  • For people like me for one who use both OS.. I updated my app after reading this article, it's been useful to me in that way.. Besides how come WC app update news on any OS is out of place on WC itself?? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I'm glad the bug is removed !!! Thanks #WPC Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • You do know the app is ours, right. An official Windows Central app? Used by readers of Windows Central.
  • ^^ this 1000x over
  • Sometimes common sense isn't very common...
  • You're not seriously asking why an update to a Windows Central app is on Windows Central, are you?
  • So you asked the same question twice but post it here at the top so people can see you bitch about a WINDOW CENTRAL app? SMH Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I use an android phone for work but rarely visit android central. I have the android app for WC on the work phone so I really appreciated this head's up.
  • Windows Central is a mobile nation unique site that not just Limited to Phone OS but Also PC,Tablet,IoT which none of it's sister site cover that much. Even iMore are iOS centric not Mac sentric
  • Windows Central is a mobile nation unique site that not just Limited to Phone OS but Also PC,Tablet,IoT which none of it's sister site cover that much.
Even iMore are iOS centric not Mac sentric We're the one that hold most market share in computing these days. Why would Android devices apps updates should be complained?
  • "Why exactly is this on windows central? Shouldn't android news be on android central" What a stupid comment comment.
  • Not stupid at all. Most people here don't use or care about android apps. So it would do better to post about it where the majority of the users likely will find a benefit. Android central. You don't see andeoidcentral reporting about google updating the app for windows 10 do u.
  • Stupid comment men!!! Posted via the Windows Central App
  • Actually AC covers allot of Window related stuff i.e. http://m.androidcentral.com/microsoft-will-allow-android-apps-be-quickly... So stop spreading FUD and yes your comment was stupid. YOU don't care about Android but obviously there's enough Android users that care about Windows that made MN app their second widely used. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • So something that directly affects all their users or most who likely use Microsoft and is something unfortunately a big deal vs a simple app that only THEY cam install. This should be on their site. Rarely ever have I seen them do anything windows related. I would know. I unfortunately used android at one time.
  • Yeah you completely missed the point. Typical Micah response. But continue with the fud Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • LOL this is the Windows Central app THEY write for Android. For those of us who love XBox and Windows but love Android, we love having this app with Android Central (and iMore because Ritchie's rants and FUD articles are hilariously stupid) Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • At last...
  • Thanks! Keep up the good work! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • And the Android version is better than the native Windows Phone version. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • *a paperball rolling on the ground* indicating loneliness
  • Actually, the Windows Central app is our second-most popular Android app, after Android Central, of course.
  • I think it's time to use the Windows Central Android app using Project Astoria. Hehe
  • yeah the windows version badly needs an update and i dont see any in the near future
  • Yeah and the windows phone version is the second class citizen version. I feel the Android version is more polished.
  • I think it's very primitive compared to the WP version. At least on WP it follows some design guidelines. On Android it's some random design.
  • Random as far a traditional Windows Mobile design, but a consistent experience across all Mobile Nations apps for each site. Plus I would imaging the majority of people that use both the Android app (which is created by completely different developers than the Windows Mobile version by the way) would find it easier to navigate and get where you want to get to.
  • You have to go to browser to open any link, to participate in a poll, watch a video, can't upload pictures on forums, try going through a thread with more than few pages of replies and you will see how WP app is so far behind. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • yeah, I can see that. so sad!
  • WP central app is lagging sort of like how MS is with the OS for some reason. It's also an app that u use a lot. Perhaps we can get Jay to update it. Though I haven't seen him around in sometime. The Android app is much better currently.
  • I believe he has been crazy busy, which is another reason why the podcast has not returned. Well that and the feedback that Daniel & Richard were getting when they came on our Tech Informist & MS Mobile Show podcasts.
  • I think I read about universal app being in development. Hope they address these issues. WP central (feature wise, I prefer design on WP version) is the only thing I miss from otherwise horrible month of using an android phone a year back.
  • Different developers, different apps.
  • Hey, please try porting the android central app using project Astoria to windows phone.
I really like your reviews and don't have an android phone anymore(my HTC desire S is dead) so i would be very happy to have your app on windows.
  • THANK YOU PHIL FOR GETTING THIS DONE! This issue had been present for as long as I've owned my Note 4 (about a year now). I had recently contacted you about this issue and was pleasantly pleased when I saw that this issue was fixed! :)   Not sure why people are questioning why Windows Central has an Android app, but then those are probably the same morons who question why Microsoft makes apps for iOS and Android. Not worth the effort in replying to them.   I was using an 822 and when my Verizon contract was over, I went and bought a Note 4 after realizing that Microsoft/Nokia weren't going to make a flagship phone for another year or more (I've been on the Note for about a year now). I still use my 822 to mess around with the WP10 builds, but there IS an app gap (not only in quantity but in quality), which may or may not be addressed by MS' moves to port Android apps to WP. So at this point in time, unless MS comes out with a kickass flagship phone which can also run Android apps, I may never go back to WP, and that saddens me.
  • And WP app hasn't been updated for ages
  • I was just wondering about that. I've been using Android for about a year but was thinking about coming back to Windows when the new phones are available. I haven't seen anything on Windows Central app updates for a very long time.
  • Jay must be enjoying life too much! Haven't heard from him in forever.
  • Desperately need filters to get rid of the constant games shit. The site is a joke now.
  • That's still kinda related to windows, but what about verizon/att/tmobile stuff ! dammit not everyone is from the US !
  • When Microsoft decides to stop caring about games for Windows 10 (which includes its latest console) then we'll stop caring about it. Until then, we're here to cater for everyone.
  • Their just asking for filters... I want em to. Its not a bad idea.. For the readers at least. Posted via Lumia 520 XL
  • The point was we need a filter. Appreciate that you have a desire for clicks and site traffic so have turned a once credible mobile site into a gamers haven. Not everyone wants to read that shit, so a filter as once promised by Jay the Scarlet Pimpernel is necessary.
  • So uh when will you update the wp app?
  • No update for w10? or waiting for bridge to port? anyone?
  • Windows Central Universal app seems lost.
    Meh
  • For a sec a read Phil Mickelson
  • Anyone else constantly get network errors from the Windows phone app? I have several phones and they all give the error while it is happening.
  • Yep. I have the network error often. Comments don't open half the time.
  • Same here... It started happening a couple of months ago.
  • Yeah it seems to happen when my router's been working to hard & I my isp is using hitron(not the best example for a intel product)
  • Same here..other apps would work but not the windows central app...:/
  • Fixes r required for WP n Windows 8 app too... Too sad no initiative for WP
  • Looks like even the future Windows Central app would be ported using Project Astoria ultimately. Et tu WC :D j/k
  • What happened to the universal app for Windows Phone?? O.o
  • It was eaten by the universe. Big bang!
  • Why windows central app for windows is paid while for android its free ?
  • Android version has ads, WP version doesn't.
  • Wp version also has ads.
  • Android version doesn't have ads.
  • So your answer to his question would be?
  • Sameer Parihar Android version has ads, WP version doesn't. Prince Pandey Wp version also has ads. Phil Nickinson Android version doesn't have ads.
So who am I supposed to believe here?
  • It doesn't have ads. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • Well...Phil is the editor-in-chief of Android Central (or, if you will, "Android-Central's-Rubino"). So if the word of Android users isn't enough for you, I'd say go with his...;)
  • Lol. I was waiting for someone to complain about the 99 cents paid version. I know it's hard to fork over such a large sum of money for an app which you probably use multiple times a day. You probably waste 10x that amount on stupid stuff each week without giving it a thought. Meanwhile you'd rather complain about paying a few pennies to someone who worked hard to develop you're most used app. Uggg. I really need to stop reading the comments section on this site.
  • +++++++ Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Worked hard to build, yes. Failed to keep maintained and updated. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • It's not the 99 cents, it's the fact that the Windows Central Android app was made by Mobile Nations, and is awesome. The WP app was built by an independant person, and sucks in comparison. Mobile nations themselves do not believe WP has enough users to build an official app for apparently.
  • Unless they changed it, you can download the "trial" for free, which is actually the full version with ads. Or you can pay 99 cents and remove ads
  • For Windows Phone is Free as well, with all the features, but it has ads (using the option to Try), While if you buy, you get the app with no ads.
  • There is a free version available, though? The WP app was made by Jay Bennett and as far as I'm aware his payment for that was what he made directly from the app.
  • Meanwhile app for Windows Phone...
  • Don't know why people are complaining about the WP app, just wait for Windows 10, it'll fix everything......
  • yeah waiting for us is no big deal....been doing that since windows phone 7....whats few more months/years....oh look another reboot.....
  • Yeah...about that "Material Design" version Phil...Don't you dare remove the Dark Theme, you hear?! Good ;P Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Absolutely not! It's the only one I use!
  • c: Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Material design. Hmmm. Anything for the windows 10 store? Better start working on that too.
  • Well keep doing the great job! For android!!!! Windows phone user only live for hope and waiting...... But that is the world freaking way :S
  • It would be nice if the Windows and Windows Phone version was updated to fix connection issues. Even better would be to have Android Central available. Right now, reading Windows Central l works better on Android.
  • Wtf? Lumia 930 here and never had 1 problem.
  • Can you fix the bug where it obnoxiously posts "Posted via the Windows Central App for Android" at the end of every comment that Android users make?
  • That's not a bug. That's the default signature for the app just like Android Central... Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Whoosh. Right over your yead.
  • Lol.. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Go into the settings and change it.
  • Sarcasm, guys.
  • Believe me, if I could go into the settings of every Android user and change it, I would. In fact, you guys should add that feature to the Windows Phone version!
  • Why is the android app so much better than the WP version anyways?
  • What??? In that pic it looks like android version is what I call skinny app. The wp8.1 version looks alot better.
  • but forums are completely useless in windows version,  just good enough to post text replies but other than that...nope
  • The light theme looks better at least to my eyes.. I agree in this pic it's not looking good.. Anyways functions wise the Android app is way ahead.. Posted via the Windows Phone Central App for Android
  • I don't know in what ways it is better, but what wonders me is ..MS releases apps for android, Google nothing for WP. WCentral has app for Android, but there isn't one from them for WP.. I dont like using Tapatalk
  • Different dev team behind it. Everyone has a different definition of better, though I prefer the Android app myself.
  • What dev team makes it should be completely irrelevant, they are supposed to make what WC asks them. Obviously they didn't ask much.
  • What do you mean? The Windows Central app being discussed in this article is EXACTLY across the rest of the Mobile Nations apps for Android. Android Central, iMore, CrackBerry and Connectedly apps on Android are identical and were all created by the same developers. Jay Bennett who created the Windows Central app on Windows & Windows Mobile was not a part of creating those on Android.   It could just be old age, but I remember everyone enjoying Jay's apps until seeing what Mobile Nations made available on Android. The reason why you do not see a similar setup on iOS is because of Apples antiquated belief that pretty much any app with the name Android or Windows in it pretty much guarantees it will be rejected.   I apologize for any rude tones here, just frustrated seeing so many people whining before logically thinking about the big picture & knowing details.
  • Tganks
  • Is that pic how it looks on android? It looks much better on wp8.1. Why the design change???
  • Android design for Android phones. Not to mention different app, different developer.
  • Saying that when I used to have an android phone the apps all looked pretty messy and ran terrible. Mostly because android Is a mess running on any hardware.
  • "when I used to have an android phone the apps all looked pretty messy and ran terrible." Then you bought a cheap crappy phone.
  • Yup, really prefer WP design. Features on droid version are better though
  • What about the Windows Phone app?
  • One of my most used app on my tablet..Never have had any issues..WP app gives me trouble sometimes..I even use dedicated WC forum app on Android but it looks old and dated...
  • Need an email notification fix for Windows 10 app.
  • I dont understand What developers want They Gave update to Android or IOS but they didn't do it with our windows phone why...????Even Microsoft didn't... there facebook app needs an update badly but they give only update on android or IOS in every week...???
  • Too true
  • Finally....!!!!
  • We want an android central and imore app for windows phone too
  • No,we don't
  • Finally!!! I can post comments now. Thanks Mobile Nation and WC Team :) Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • How about a W10 universal app?
  • Second.
  • Yay. I can finally use my android device to post comments Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • How about updating your Windows app?
  • Android guys can use windows central on android, but windows guys can't use android central on windows...
  • Do we have android central in windows store?
  • https://www.windowscentral.com/e?link=https2F%2Fclick.linksynergy.co... A very crappy 3rd Party one. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Agree with aitt's description. Would like to see a good android app for WC.
  • WP central app is lagging sort of like how MS is with the OS for some reason. It's also an app that I use a lot. Perhaps we can get Jay to update it. Though I haven't seen him around. in sometime. The Android app is much better currently.m
  • Hi Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Finally!!!! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I actually was having trouble signing into the iMore app on iOS the other day, it wouldn't accept my Windows Central login. I thought Mobile Nations had a universal login but it's possible I was remembering it wrong.
  • Windows Central WP app has limit of 300 or so comments shown. Or is there a hidden setting somewhere?
  • Update for Windows phone too....
  • I just love! I waited for it for sooo long! Thank you so much developer team! U guys are great! Posted via the Windows Central App for Nexus
  • You have to Update the windows phone and windows 10 app. The pc version have a confuse layout
  • On Android is free,on Windows Phone(Mobile) is paid!
  • Awesome! Thanks for the fix. I thought I was going crazy or something! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • That comment confirms that the update is good! Finally, it has been months! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Since there's a porting tool now it should be easy to port the Android Central and perhaps iMore Apps to Windows. An indicator on whether devs will port apps from other platforms to Windows 10 ;)
