If you're in the market for a Windows Phone but don't really want to invest much or are just looking for a second device, the Nokia Lumia 520 is a very appealing option. And the latest sale price has the Lumia 520 look all the more attractive.

Listed as an AT&T GoPhone (pre-paid phone) the Lumia 520 is on sale over at Fry's for only $79.99.  This latest deal alert comes on the heels of Tiger Direct offering the Lumia 520 for $89.99 which isn't too shabby in it's own right.

Deal Alert: AT&T Nokia Lumia 520 drops below $80 at Fry's

So if this is a go phone, can I still just put any att SIM card in it and use it as normal?

For someone who doesn't buy device insurance, this would make a great back-up phone if mine ever got lost/stolen/destroyed.

By the same token, you can use any AT&T phone on their GoPhone plan. I bought an L920 to use for the plan. You just have to shell out full prevailing price for whatever phone you choose.

Frys? Good luck.. It might be used or an open box missing everything but the charger like every other thing in that place lol.. The only thing I buy from there is EVGA GPUs for dirt cheap so I can RMA it if anything happens.

Frys really isn't that bad, you sound like you've bought open boxes before and expected a "new" product.

Fry's is not as great as people make it out to be. And yes if you buy their open/discounted items it's buyer beware.

Back in the day they would try and pass off open box as new. they have gotten better but you can never tell what will happen when walking into frys.

I have bought several items from Frys. No issues. We also buy tech items for our office. No issues.
Frys is the no.1 choice for tech products in our office. We have bought NAS drives, routers,Apple products, cables, etc from them. So, not bad as you make it out to be.

It is as bad as he makes it out to be, especially the store in Orange County. Example: I went back to exchange a CPU because the original one I bought was DOA. I put a very small mark on the CPU where only I could tell it was there. I hand it over, the guy goes to the back to get me a "new" one, comes back and hands me the same f****ng CPU. They are scum and I've never gone back. Newegg all the way.

I just bought the phone from Fry's and I was told that I could not return it after opening the package because it's a pay-go phone. I did not see any returned Lumia 520 in the store. I would love to hear from you how you can return the phone after you have opened the package.

My hope is that Nokia can achieve this price through the exclusivisity agreements with AT&T (and T-Mo for the 521). So the price might be low enough because the carrier is kicking in some of the costs in order to keep it locked to their network.

Well, it's about 130€ here in Finland (and usually the digits are the same on the US side), so I too am guessing that there are carrier subsidies at play. Still a carzy good price.

You spend more on a TI-82 graphing calculator... And it can't do crap. But this phone can run an app that completely replaces the TI-82.

Ordered one just to have as an extra WP8 dev/test device so I don't have to use my 920 all the time for experimentation.

AT&T lumia 520 can be easily unlocked. I have seen unlock link on slickdeals.
I think it is something like fireunlock.net.

WOW....Thats really expensive,!! I dont understand why it costs so much in Europe. In india you can get it for 118€ (abt 10K Rs).

In Belarus the price on that phone 220$, but local operator is selling it with a contract for 280$. So sad :c

In The Netherlands It's also more than 140 euros unlocked. Weird, 'cause it's actually a popular device here so you'd expect the price to drop.

Will this Phone be getting LTE support in the update? I hope so, dont want to be paying for something I can't use.

Be careful when buying at Fry's you can't return/exchange a pre-paid phone. The Microsoft store has a very lenient return policy (I returned multiple phones with no questions asked). I think its worth the extra $10 you pay at Microsoft store.

I bought one for my sister a few weeks ago. It has the Amber update (even though AT&T STILL hasn't released it for my L920).
