Selfie

Although the Microsoft acquisition of the Nokia handset division has legally wrapped, some news about what we can expect from the new Microsoft department has come forward. This morning, the Verge is reporting that a new device – codenamed ‘Superman’ – is being prepped for a release later this year and that it will feature a 5 MP front-facing camera.

‘Superman’ is described as a mid-range phone by the Verge with a 4.7” display. It will coincide with two required OS updates for Windows Phone 8.1, one over the summer and one later in the year. No other information about the device was revealed.

The word of the year for 2013 was ‘selfie.’ If you want to have some fun with selfies, then definitely check out Warp Photo Booth for Windows Phone 8. Just launch the application, and take a picture with a very funny distortion effect. It’s a really simple photo app and we’re having a lot of fun with it.

Head past the break to watch our hands on video and walkthrough.

We’re not entirely into the idea of “selfies” aka the practice of photographing yourself and posting it to social networks, but we know many people are these days. Nokia released their Glam Me app earlier this year after a Mobile World Congress announcement for this exact purpose, hopefully appealing to the youth crowd. The app is for taking self-shots but it has the added bonus of an onboard editor for making your face all pretty-like.

Nokia just pushed out version 1.5.5.12 of the app today and boy did it get a makeover itself. The app now has numerous new features that are really interesting, even if you have no plans for a “selfie” anytime soon.
