Big Huetro for Hue update adds dynamic lighting scenes and much more

The Huetro for Hue (opens in new tab) app was already a solid way to control your Philips Hue lights on Windows 10 and Xbox One, but its latest update turns things up a notch. Huetro version 5.0 is now rolling out on the Windows Store, and it includes some pretty nifty new features for custom lighting scenes and more. And just in time for the Fall Creators Update, Huetro has picked up some Fluent Design-inspired flourishes as well.

One of the cooler features added in this update is rather fittingly called "Disco." With Disco, you can make your own color themes and have them play to the beat of your music, essentially creating your own personal light show in your home. You can also now leverage Huetro to automatically change the color of your lights at sunrise or sunset, or even at specific temperatures.

Here's a look at all of what's new in Huetro version 5.0:

  • Ambience Composer, create your own Ambience - dynamic lighting scenes!
  • Disco! Create your own color themes, and play them at the beat of the music!
  • Hue Daylight sensor - set an action at sunrise or sunset. Hue Temperature sensor, set action at a specific temperature!
  • A new #FluentDesign inspired UI
  • And of course lots of bugfixes and performance improvements

If your house is loaded up with Philips Hue lights and you want to give Huetro a shot, you can grab the app for Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, and Xbox One for free on the Windows Store now.

  • Huetro developer here - thanks for the write-up, Dan! If anyone has any questions/comments about Huetro, let me know!
  • Yes!! I have a VERY interesting question, I'm sure a lot of people would like to hear your view on.
First off... Thanks for supporting Windows 10, AND W10M! I already have much respect for you just for that, and it's greatly appreciated💜💜💜💜
My question is,, what are your views on W10M?
Are you hanging in there just incase MS DOES have something planned for mobile in the relatively near future?
If MS comes with zilch,, How long could you support W10M before you call it quits?
Is it easy to support W10M because of the UWP?
Are you losing hope for WinMo, and plan on ending support soon, or not?...
Ok, it's more than one question😆😆😆. But, tell us the truth, rather than just what we want to hear.
  • Although I don't have Hue products and hence I don't use the app, but thanks for your support to Windows platform :)
  • That's what I'm talking about!!
  • Thanks Niels for the quick fix and new features!
  • First I just have to say that I love the app and the constant updates you are providing, but since the latest update I keep getting prompted to buy the premium version, which I thought I had done already, could it be a bug or have you added an additional level of purchase in the app?  Most things work just as well, of not better in Huerto, but I've found that in the official app there are morning and evening timers that slowly adjust the lights color and brightness but these do not show up in Huerto. Is there a way of making them work in Huerto or a proper way of recreating them there?
  • Keep up the good work! Thanks for supporting Windows 10 & Mobile!
  • I may just go out and buy some Hue lights -- thanks so much!
  • I've been using Huetro for quite a while now and Niels is just great! This is one of those apps that kicks the 4ss of the official Hue app if I compare it on Android. Can't wait to install the update and use the new features. Keep rocking Niels 👊💪👍🎉🎉🎉🎉
