What you need to know
- Xbox One X users continue to experience crashes with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (opens in new tab).
- Activision has enlisted aid from Microsoft, asking users "stand by for more updates on this issue soon."
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recently saw its global debut, delivering a fresh spin on the bestselling shooter series. Expanding the renowned trilogy with the horrors of current conflicts, a hard-hitting campaign and snappy multiplayer assemble an impressive package. But the return of Modern Warfare hasn't dropped without hiccups, as an extensive lineup of bugs and issues descend on buyers.
A nasty Xbox One X bug lies among Modern Warfare's main troubles, as players report frequent crashes on Microsoft's latest flagship. The issue has rendered the title unplayable for some, as developer Infinity Ward reassures efforts to assemble a fix.
The developer is yet to deliver an update to halt Xbox One X crashes, though provides the latest via new playlist refresh notes. The change-up brings 64-player counts to Ground War on Quarry in the meantime, further expanding its large-scale multiplayer mode. It also adjusts the Defcon timer to 45 seconds, while axing a revive bug in Cyber Attack.
Infinity Ward has also now enlisted aid from Microsoft to address Xbox One X crashing, suggesting users "stand by for more updates on this issue soon."
While the statement fails to provide a potential timeframe or temporary workaround, regular communication should prove hopeful for Xbox One X owners. Installing Modern Warfare on an external hard drive has reduced crashes for some users on a lookout for a fix in the days ahead.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, starting at $60 via Amazon.

I have been playing it since release on the 24th here in the US and have never had a crash on my Xbox One X. Do hope it is fixed for those that are unfortunately experiencing this problem.
I have had my Xbox one X on for 3 days straight downloading things as i only still have an ADSL2 connection where i am and haven't had a single issue with Modern Warfare 2 playing it as it is downloading other games. So far up to the English town house. Have people said where it is crashing? Is it only MP or single player as well?
I am using the latest Gears V Xbox one X so not sure if that has a bearing on things or not. Hopefully they sort this out quickly in any case. The game requires further optimisations for Xbox One X though as being in 4k it is often having a hard time remaining at 60 fps. PS Pro barely drops frames at 1440p so perhaps 1800p would be the best option for the X and not 4k that it seems to currently be at.
Alpha effects especially are tanking framerates even though the game looks amazing graphically, the framerate is far more important and it is disappointing that this is only optimised on Sony's PS4 Pro and not the Xbox consoles. Hopefully this will be rectified in a patch. Digital Foundry said the PS4 Pro was lead console for this game , fair enough but Xbox users part with the same thing called 'money' as Sony users do so they should be shown the same level of respect at launch by the publisher and this is clearly not the case when it comes to the two more powerful consoles.
I'm going to wait to get it until this is sorted, I realise not everyone is having the problem, but I don't want to be one of the unlucky few that does.
