Darkest Dungeon is a surprisingly hardcore adventure game which blends a lot of different mechanics. Imagine The Oregon Trial, but it takes place in a dungeon and you have to make even more decisions. Some may consider the experience too punishing, but it has garnered a loyal following over the past few months. Believe it or not, it was one of the most anticipated games on Xbox One.

Today, PC Gamer reported that a sequel was in the works. While details are scarce, the outlet confirmed that "Darkest Dungeon's combat system will be returning in a recognizable but tuned-up form" and "the studio is focused on creating a completely different structure for its metagame."

Hopefully Darkest Dungeon II will be as enthralling as the first game. Darkest Dungeon launched in 2016 and Xbox One owners had to wait two years for it to hit the system. Here's hoping that the sequel doesn't go through the same delay.

In our review, we said, "Darkest Dungeon is a tremendous game that offers something quite unique on Xbox One. Few games follow the Lovecraftian tradition so well, with relentlessly ghastly dungeons and terrifying eldritch horrors." Be sure to check if out if you haven't already!
