Everspace getting huge 'Encounters' expansion, free 4K update for Xbox One X

Indie space shooter Everspace is getting a major expansion on Xbox One and PC. Called Encounters, the expansion will bring a healthy dose of new content to PC players at the end of October, while Xbox One players can dive in starting in February.

Everspace developer Rockfish says that Encounters will add "over 10 hours of extra gameplay to the core game." A major part of Encounters will be the arrival of a new player ship, called the Colonial Sentinal. Classed as a medium fighter, the Colonial Sentinal will pack some "serious electronic warfare capabilities." It also features a special shield that has twice the capacity of the standard model.

Rockfish says players can also expect new factory space stations that will offer new "on-the-fly services" like upgrading ship capabilities and refining and converting resources. Players will also be able to head to the Okkar Homeworld and meet new story characters with new quest lines.

The Encounters expansion doesn't have a price or specific release date just yet. Instead, Rockfish says PC gamers can expect the expansion to hit Steam and GOG by the end of October. Xbox One players can expect the expansion to launch in February 2018 alongside a free update that adds 4K support for Xbox One X owners. In the meantime, you can pick up the base Everspace game for $29.99.
