While the first Microsoft HoloLens Developer Edition units are shipping to developers, the small team in charge of the Galaxy Explorer app for the augmented reality headset is close to completing their work on the project.
The latest video update from the team shows its members making last-minute changes to Galaxy Explorer. It also shows glimpses of what the app might look like from the user's perspective, such as the Milky Way galaxy map with individual stars, to the solar system where users can get up close and personal with the moon, Saturn and other planets.
The app still has a couple of weeks of polish work, but Galaxy Explorer is considered to be content complete. Microsoft plans to release the app for HoloLens users for free and it will also be an open source project that will allow developers to learn how to make HoloLens apps.
