Call of Duty continues to dominate US player rankings while Battlefield 6 slips further behind in the franchise rivalry
Despite early momentum, Battlefield 6 has slipped in US rankings as Call of Duty HQ’s combined player base maintains its grip on the most played charts.
Despite a strong release across all platforms, Battlefield 6 has struggled to compete with Call of Duty’s continued dominance. However, the data suggests there may be more going on beneath the surface.
Call of Duty HQ currently ranks as the second most played title in the US across Xbox and PlayStation, but that figure combines engagement from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Call of Duty: Warzone, and the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This aggregation makes it difficult to directly compare Black Ops 7 with Battlefield 6 on a like-for-like basis.
What we do know is that Black Ops 7 has reportedly underperformed relative to expectations. European launch data shows opening week sales down 63% compared to Battlefield 6, and more than 50% compared to Black Ops 6, suggesting that Call of Duty’s overall strength may be masking a weaker individual release.
Battlefield 6’s numbers might tell a more complicated story
While Battlefield 6 engagement includes both the paid core multiplayer and REDSEC, the game’s free-to-play battle royale mode, it still has not been enough to challenge Call of Duty’s dominance in the most-played charts in the U.S.
Thanks for reporting from Circana, we can see that for the week ending December 13, 2025, Battlefield 6 sits at seventh place, slipping slightly from sixth the week prior. That drop suggests that even with a flagship free-to-play battle royale offering, Battlefield 6 is struggling to keep pace with the broader Call of Duty HQ ecosystem.

That said, landing in sixth or seventh place remains a strong result and reflects a healthy player base. However, it also highlights a potential mismatch between Battlefield’s approach and current player trends.
With extraction shooters like ARC Raiders maintaining momentum, it appears many players are looking for something more distinctive. In that context, a traditional battle royale mode may not be the draw it once was, especially in an increasingly crowded live service space.

This may not be the only point of concern for Battlefield 6, as eagle-eyed fans have raised questions about whether some paid cosmetic items make use of generative AI. You can read more about that here.
What else does Circana report?
As expected, Fortnite continues to hold the number one spot across both platforms, with Grand Theft Auto V (Remastered) sitting comfortably at number three, again on both platforms.
On PlayStation, Roblox lands at number four, while on Xbox it ranks even higher, at number 3. The remainder of the top ten is largely made up of long-running live service titles, reinforcing just how difficult it is for newer releases to break through and maintain momentum week to week.
