Crimson Desert reveals a new roadmap of gameplay and story improvements for the open-world hit — and a DLC is in the works
Cross-saves, improved narrative cutscenes, and gameplay improvements are coming this summer season, along with DLC.
Pearl Abyss, the creators of 2026's blockbuster AAA open-world game, Crimson Desert, has recently revealed a new content roadmap on their website, which contains various gameplay and narrative improvements that will be implemented into the game over the Summer.
The roadmap also reveals that Pearl Abyss is working on DLC for Crimson Desert, and it will reveal the details on said DLC at a later date. For now, however, here is the full list of content updates coming for Crimson Desert soon.
- Story Improvements – Pearl Abyss has stated it will improve the narrative flow of Kliff's journey by refining and improving the coherence of key scenes of the story, based on player feedback.
- Re-Blockade Update – The Re-Blockade is getting a new phase that will make the flow before and after a blockage feel more natural while giving the player more ways to defend certain strongholds from invasions. Rewards for liberating strongholds will also be improved.
- New Combat Content – New combat-focused content will be added that will test the player's strength and skills, the details of which will be shared at a later date.
- Cross-Save – Pearl Abyss is working on a cross-save feature so players can continue their progress on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms by linking their Crimson Desert accounts to each platform.
- Damiane & Oongka Gameplay Improvements – The playable Damiane and Oongka will have their gameplay experiences improved so that they're on par with Kliff Greymane's.
- Quality-of-Life Improvements for Non-Combat Content – Non-combat-centric content like trading goods and farming will receive quality-of-life improvements to make more convenient to engage in for players.
Crimson Desert just keeps getting better and better
Many people doubted that a game as massively ambitious and content-rich as Crimson Desert could live up to players' lofty expectations, but it managed to pull it off.
It has managed to sell over 5 million copies and garner critical acclaim for its gargantuan open world rife with engaging activities and puzzles, and a complex and over-the-top combat system where you can mix fantasy swordplay with wrestling moves to decimate enemies.
Our own contributor, Michael Hoglund, even gave Crimson Desert a 4.5/5 review score, explaining that, "Crimson Desert is the kind of game that usually only comes along once in a generation, so singular in its ambition that it will define the gaming conversation for weeks, if not months, to come. Despite granular misses, Pearl Abyss has showcased what gameplay freedom truly means."
With these updates and upcoming DLC on the horizon, Crimson Desert's high quality is going to get even better, possibly to the point where it will become a potential contender for 2026's Game of the Year. But only time will tell if it will make the cut, so stay tuned to find out, along with news for its mysterious DLC.
Embark on an epic journey to rebuild your fractured clan, battle towering monsters, and save the realm of Pywel from destruction in the hit open-world adventure game, Crimson Desert.
