The Outer Worlds has been delisted, but players can carry saves into Spacer’s Choice Edition on Game Pass
Obsidian confirms save files will carry forward as The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition replaces the original release on modern storefronts.
The Outer Worlds fans can rejoice. Despite the game and its DLCs being delisted from most storefronts, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, GoG, Epic, and Steam, but not Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4 versions. Obsidian has released a Q&A detailing some commonly asked questions surrounding save files, upgrades, and more.
It’s worth quickly explaining what exactly is happening with The Outer Worlds before we dive in, so bear with me as I do my best to catch you up. Essentially, The Outer Worlds and its DLCs are being delisted from most modern storefronts and replaced by The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition going forward.
With that out of the way, fear not, because I’ve gathered together the most important questions and answers right here. Without further ado, let’s jump in.
First off, and perhaps most importantly, Obsidian answered whether saves from the original version of The Outer Worlds will work with Spacer’s Choice Edition. Thankfully, the answer is yes, with Obsidian stating:
“Yes they will. We have done the work to ensure that all saves from the base edition will be able to move forward to the Spacer’s Choice Edition. Though do note that due to new features like grenades, going back to the base edition from the Spacer’s Choice Edition will not work.”
Next up, when discussing whether Game Pass users will still have access to the game, Obsidian said:
“Yes. The Xbox Series X|S Game Pass version has now been updated to Spacer’s Choice Edition.”
For those who may still be somewhat confused about whether existing owners get a free upgrade to Spacer’s Choice Edition, Obsidian also clarified:
“It depends on the platform. PC storefront owners, including Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Xbox App, and Windows Store users, will receive the upgrade at no additional cost if the game is already in their digital library.”
I’d say those are the main questions answered. It’s admittedly kind of weird that Obsidian is doing this in the first place, but at least the studio is being considerate of people’s save files, which, unfortunately, is something that doesn’t always happen in this industry. If you wish to read the full Q&A, I’ll have that linked right here, too.
Still, I’d love to hear your thoughts on all of this, and whether you plan on continuing your existing save or perhaps finally jumping into the game now that this new edition is heading to Game Pass. Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to take part in our poll.
