GroupMe is a popular service from Microsoft, enabling consumers to connect with others using groups (hence the name). It's an app that enables consumers to transfer photos, while making use of both push and SMS for messages.
We've been notified of yet another update for GroupMe on Windows Phone. Version 4.4, which has been published to the store and should be live within the next 24 hours, introduces a number of new additions to the experience. The app was only updated to version 4.3 back in February and included numerous features consumers were crying out for. So what's new in this latest release?
Two notable changes include the ability to login using an email and password, as well as sorting out issues with users not receiving PINs. The service can call or send an SMS to verify the number on the account. Here's a list of other additions included in version 4.4:
- Internationalized into 11 languages:
- Much more stable behaviour when returning to the app
- A number of bug fixes
You can download GroupMe from the Windows Phone Store. Note that the update will go live in the next 24 hours. The support team will be monitoring this article so be sure to shout out any questions you may have.

I really hope this has more bug fixes. I still usually have to hit refresh for new posts to show up. Also constantly "refreshing...". Also only sends the pic half the time. Says refreshing and I come back later and the pic never posted. Love the app, looking for stability. I think many of the issues may occur when pinning individual groups to start... Seems to work better pinning main app but less convenient.
Well, was worth a shot. If anything it seems a bit worse.
Hmm, that pinning issue is interesting. Can you email email@example.com so we can investigate further? Thanks! #)
Already Live on US MarketPlace when I checked this morning..
Thanks for Changelog..
No problem! Thanks for using GroupMe! #)
Why isn'tthis merged with skype yet, skype acquired them i believe. Group chat on skype is horrid
Microsoft owns groupme. So why does IOS and android have a way better app. Windows phone should have the superior app or at least the same one.
WP development is still a very new culture. We are working always hard to improve our apps. Thanks! #)
We used this to communicate with coworkers because it was cross platform (some use android, two of us use WP). Was really bad. We ended up switching to whats app, lot better on WP. Maybe there updates will fix it, but having to refresh all the time killed it for us.
Didn't the android and iOS versions get some money sharing service? Where is that for WP?
They also have a picture gallary which would be nice to have instead of having to scroll forever to see pictures. Also, like someone mentioned previously, the refresh doesn't seem correct as I do need to manually refresh constantly as well.
We are working on adding these features to the WP app. Stay tuned for updates! #)
I'm forced to use this app in SMS mode because I never get notifications if I don't. Not to mention the annoyance if I'm trying to read old messages, a new msg will cause it to scroll all the way back down. Group me app was so much better on my android.
Would be nice if I could log in, it keeps telling me the username or password is invalid then tells me it can't connect to Group Me.
Some messages come in as SMS now for some reason. It used to be all contained within the app, but I've received ~5 text messages containing the same message as the app. Weird bug.
That happened to me after the previous update. Duplicate msgs in txt and app. Eventually worked itself out. Haven't had the issue with this update though.
