Halo 3, Halo 4, and more Halo titles come to Xbox One backward compatibility

Halo is making its mark in force on the backward compatibility scene today. Microsoft has added four Xbox 360-era Halo games to the Xbox One backward compatible list today, including Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST Campaign Edition, Halo 4, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Prior to these additions, Halo's backward compatible presence had been pretty bare, with only Halo: Reach, Halo: Spartan Assault, and Halo Ward on deck. Now, if you own the 360 titles, you can play through nearly every mainline Halo game via backward compatibility on your Xbox One. Of course, you've been able to mostly do this on Xbox One already if you picked up The Master Chief Collection. But if you opted to skip that release, now's your chance to jump back in.

Do note that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is only playable if you own the disc. All of the others are available and playable digitally, however.

  • I still wish there was an upgrade option... if you have the 360 version digitally, and want to get the xbox one definitive version, instead of buying all over, just pay a portion, 30 - 50 % of the price to get the upgraded graphics and stuff
  • What? This isn't an upgraded graphics version, this is the normal 720P versions played on an Xbox One.
  • yeah, doesn't really apply to Halo, since 1, 2, 3 and 4 were bundled into a single game, but things like Assasins Creed, where most the games are backwards compatible, yet there is an Xbox one version as well, or the first Tomb Raider... Skyrim, borderlands and bioshock, all came out for the 360, but have an xbox one "updated" version
  • In terms of the AC series, they just increased the draw distance.  You're not missing much.  I got AC Revelations on GwG for 360.  Played 30% and wound up buying the Ezio pack for the One.  I'd never played Brotherhood and felt I was missing enough of the story to justify the $25CAD for three games and two videos. So unless you wanted the double achievements, I think this is much ado about nothing.
  • I guess Halo Master Chief Collection stopped selling enough so they decided to release these BC... lol
  • Finally a good Halo game on Xbox One! I'll be on Halo 3 for the foreseeable future. Add me on XBL: Bloke
  • Hoping to see original Halo 1 and 2 show up when OG back compat support arrives
  • You have a typo in the first paragraph, did you mean Halo Wars not Halo Ward. I was going hold up, is there a Halo game I did not know about, but then realized it was possibly a typo.
