What you need to know

  • A new update is now available for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
  • This update introduces the Flood to Firefight, alongside a host of other improvements.
  • There's also now campaign co-op cross-play for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is still getting updates, with some new long-requested features finally being added.

343 Industries shared on Monday that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is getting Floodfight, a version of Halo 3: ODST Firefight that now includes the Flood. In addition to these infectious new foes, Firefight now includes Elites, as well as the ability for ODSTs to use Energy Swords and Sentinel Beams.

Floodfight is more than just introducing new enemies, as dense fog is being added to ramp up the creepiness factor whenever the Flood are present. The Flood have also regained the ability to use vehicles (something last seen in Halo 2) and there are three new types of Flood to fight: Infected Civilians, Infected ODSTs and Infected Elite Majors, the latter of which use red armor and energy shields.

Outside of the Flood-centric updates, 343 Industries is also introducing co-op cross-play between Xbox consoles and PC for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. While this feature has been heavily tested, the developer does note that bugs might be encountered, which should then be reported. Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 2 Anniversary do not support co-op campaign cross-play, and there's no mention of when or if these other games will also get this feature added.

Finally, numerous additional Skulls have also been added, with the ability to unlock strange new features and AI behavior across Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, though 343 Industries again cautions that there may be unintended side effects introduced if these are enabled.
