What you need to know
- Microsoft has expanded its studios dramatically over the past few years.
- The Initiative was formed to make "AAAA" experiences.
- The game is already playable and some internal studio members have played it.
- We'll learn more about its project in 2020 says Xbox's Matt Booty.
Updated December 22, 2019: According to The Initiative's Drew Murray on Twitter, the game is already playable and the team is working with The Coalition on sharing how to design levels and much more.
They’ve been incredibly generous sharing their methods for designing features and levels. A couple of the people there were the first non-@TheInitiative people to see (and play) the game, and they’ve given us some great outside, objective perspectives on our work. There are a lot of new Xbox One games coming next year, and we also know some first-party titles that will be available for the upcoming Xbox Series X. However, what Microsoft's The Initiative team is working on is a mystery. In a new Game Informer article, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty said that we'll learn more about the team and what it's working on in 2020.
According to the job listing, The Initiative will develop "AAAA" games for Xbox. This probably means that they're aiming for the highest quality and will spare no expense. I'm secretly hoping for an open-world action-adventure, but considering that the studio hasn't shipped anything yet, only time will tell how it plays out. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more. A reveal will probably take place during E3 2020.
Huge shoutout to Shinobi602 for spotting the quote.
