Every weekend, Windows Central streams an Xbox One game or two on Twitch for 1-2 hours and gives out free games to the cool people who join us during the stream. It's like a live podcast, only you also get to watch a game while chatting with our awesome readers and viewers!
This weekend we played Kalimba from Microsoft's Press Play studio. Kalimba is a beautiful and challenging puzzle platformer in which players control two characters at once. To make things sweeter for the live viewers, we gave out 17 codes for Xbox One and Steam during the stream!
Update: The stream has ended! Read on for the condensed and awesome YouTube replay video and full list of contest winners.
Tip: If the video has not finished processing, please check back in a few minutes.
Originally announced as Project Totem, Kalimba is Press Play's distinctive follow-up to Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. Rather than 3D graphics with 2D gameplay, this one features an entirely 2D presentation with a distinctive art style based on triangles. It looks gorgeous in motion, and the music impresses as well.
An evil Shaman has killed the good Shaman who watches over the island of Kalimba. But her spirit lives on, and so it takes over a pair of totems. Now those totems must work to restore the island and save its people.
Kalimba's unique gameplay twist is that a single player controls both totems at once. Press Play has cleverly divided the levels in a split-screen fashion. Every input you deliver moves both totems, so you have to watch each half of the screen and calculate their movements with precision.
If playing co-op all by yourself sounds rough, perhaps you'd prefer Kalimba's local co-op mode. Two players can team up for entirely separate co-op levels, working together to reach the finish alive. Coordinating your movements as a team proves no less challenging than doing it on your own!
Tonight we'll show off both the single-player and co-op portions of Kalimba. Watch along and you could win a copy of your own!
We'll be streaming Kalimba for ~90 minutes tonight, starting at 8pm Central (9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific, 2am GMT). During that time, we'll be giving out a total of 17 game codes:
- 10 for Xbox One
- 7 for Steam
To enter, just follow me at Twitch.tv/Eastxtwitch (making sure to enable email notifications!) and tune in during the stream. You can watch the stream right here in this post, but you need to actually participate in the stream chat to have a chance at winning. We'll deliver codes to the winners via Twitch message (PM) during the stream. No code begging!
Feel free to stick around in chat before and after the stream if you have any questions or just want to say hi. If you enjoy the stream, be sure to check our schedule and come back for more!
How to watch Twitch livestreams
What's the best way to experience Twitch? The Twitch website on your PC or Mac web browser. If you don't have or prefer not to use a computer, you can get the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Xbox 360 Twitch apps and watch from the comfort of your couch. Android and iOS both have official and unofficial Twitch apps to choose from as well.
On Windows Phone, you'll have to grab an unofficial app. There are several to choose from, each with different strengths and weaknesses. Only one app lets you search directly for our channel, though. If you use the others you'll have to find and follow us from a web browser first. Read the roundup to learn more!
