Mango Twitter issue workaround found

Good news for those experiencing the Mango-Twitter issue we reported on earlier. If you recall, a lot of people lost the Twitter contact integration with their People Hub over the last 24 hrs. It was confirmed by @winphonesupport who has their team looking into it and we're told by another source it has to do with Twitter modifying their API, causing a connection issue with Windows LIVE (who handles the syncing in Mango).

The workaround discovered is simple enough and has been confirmed by @winphonesupport and us:

  • Delete Twitter account under Settings
  • Power cycle phone
  • Re-add Twitter account

Yeah, all in all quite simple. Though it take awhile for our account to be re-setup, possibly due to ongoing changes on Microsoft's LIVE servers.

  • sounds simple enough, now lets work on getting the integrated WLM issue resolved. http://www.windowsphonemetro.com/2011/09/28/live-messenger-contacts-not-...
  • I updated to Mango last night and I haven't even been able to add Twitter. I keep getting the "Oops! We're having a problem..." message. Any ideas here? Just going through steps 2-3 from the article doesn't help.
  • This is not the first (or second) time that Twitter has broken backwards compatibility with their API.
  • It sounds like the Live service might not be fully up and synced yet, maybe they'll work these kinks out but it does sound like it's a server side issue and not something with the phone.
  • Worked for me :) thanks x
  • Now, this is my first really sad experience with WP7 Mango. I'll give first the useful details (in case it can help); how did I solve this problem that happened after updating my JP Mango Phone (IS12T) firmware (my phone was "Mango" since day1, did not got it as an updated):1) Remove my Twitter Account from phone2) Revoque access to Windows Live on Twitter (through Twitter website)3) Power Cycle the Phone4) Adding my twitter account back into the phone.Without step 3 I couldn't manage and it's sad because this has ended up with my phone being hard reset. Even worse, I didn't know there was such thing as a "primary computer", so updated my WP7.5 into my wife's and now I cannot restore the backup. Though to be honest, it seems that I wouldn't have been able to do it either way after the hard reset (which is sad). Why did I go "hard reset"? Well, because I lost the ability to "delete my twitter account", which was automatically added again after first Windows Live Account sync. So here is my "short nightmare in full extent:- Updated my phone firmware to correct hardware issues as reported in WPcentral(hard reboots, loss of touch control, etc.)- Lost my "What's new feed for twitte contacts" (but kept contacts)- Removed Twitter account a first time (sucessful)- Added it back (without power-cycle the phone)- No improvements (tried reboot the phone, etc.)- From then on, unable to remove my twitter account anymore- Hard reset the phone- Add my accounts → still same problem with twitter account, though recover ability to add it and remove it.- I finally did what I wrote bellow, now it's working.I still have to find a way to recover my apps and stuff...
  • have tried it so many times now... it doesn't work (HD7) error 500

  • wtf
  • for those have problems deleting their twitter accounts on WP7 handsets. follow these steps:1. go to twitter.com -> settings -> applications -> find Windows Live, then click on "revoke access".2. Remove twitter from your cellphone, then reboot your cellphone.3. go to settings -> emails&accounts -> add twiiter.and finish the setup.works for me.
  • have tried it so many times now... it doesn't work (HD7) error 500
  • I didn't even have to do this. My Twitter contacts disappeared yesterday, but they have returned today.
  • The problem lies within Windows Live. On my phone (HD7) the Windows Live status says 'not up to date'. Syncing fails as well. So just wait until the Windows Live servers are back up to date and it will work again for sure.
  • yeah I got the exact same message under Windows Live.
  • did these steps, but it didn't work for me :(
