Update May 8, 2018: The patch is now live and Epic Games has detailed the limited time mode that includes Thanos and how the character behaves. Check out that and all the bug fixes and goodness over on the Epic Games blog.

Update May 7, 2018: The Avengers: Infinity War cross-over event arrives in Fortnite on May 8, 2018, and will give players the ability to find the Infinity Gauntlet and transform into Thanos. The "Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mash-up" mode in Fortnite Battle Royale will be identical to the standard hundred-player arena.

Fortnite is a free-to-play third-person shooter which features building mechanics and even a PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds-like "Battle Royale" mode where a hundred players compete for the top spot.

Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest movie in the world right now and it looks like Epic Games is teaming up with Marvel in a big way. According to a video posted by the Russo Brothers, Thanos will be joining Fortnite for a special limited-time event.

It's unclear what the scope of the collaboration will be or how Thanos will fit into the game. It's more than likely that players will have to work together to take him down. There are also rumors that players can transform into Thanos but it's unclear how that works at this point.

Fortnite Battle Royale, and the new mode, will be available for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and iOS. We'll keep you updated as soon as we receive more information.
