Microsoft officially confirms over 100,000 apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace

Although we've reported that the Windows Phone Marketplace had 100,000 apps, today Microsoft has put the official stamp on it announcing the figure at the Windows Phone Summit in San Francisco, California.

Certainly a Marketplace should be judged on quality of apps but hitting 100,000 apps has to feel good for Microsoft as it adds some legitimacy to the platform.

  • They failed to show the notifications, or is it same unmanaged as wp7.5
  • Its not there otherwise they would have mentioned it.
  • That was one which I was waiting for, oh well
  • Did you watch the presentation? Joe Belfiore specifically said he was not unveiling ALL of the features of WP8, only 8 that he thought were important, mostly hardware wise

  • This was a major disappointment.
  • They're not going to reveal all the new features until very close to the date Windows Phone 8 rolls out. This way, Apple and Google don't steal all the features like they did with Mango.
  • 100k but it still feels like it's missing a lot of small things here and there.
  • 90,000 are books and maps lol. Good on them though, saw they are getting some more popular apps soon too.
  • Simply amazing. And I wondered how much of the other 10k consist of spam apps like WinCoders' "Just a fan" series. Really, they should start deleting those kind of applications or at least let the users block out spammer devs out of view.
  • I can see the commercial now. . . "Windows Phone. We're legit. B)"
  • darn strait!! name me 1 OS  that had the first 100k apps with amazing quality... NOT ONE!   this is amazing , we probly have better quality apps then android did their first 100k...

  • For Android, they have much more apps in number than WP, they also win the title of full of malware, crapware, spyware, junkware in their market, that's how they have growth to such number!
  • Do launchers and batches of icons really count as apps?
  • Stupid Yalla apps...
  • I agree! I hope Microsoft adds a "report spam" feature to the Marketplace. I'll report the whole developer!
  • Amazing! Go WP!!!
  • Haha Yalla.
  • Words with friends & draw something will finally make it to wp8
  • I just hope that they give some software updates in WP7.8 like Skype integration and offline Navigation, and not just the start screen update.
  • Yet still no Audible.com app. I genuinely love my Windows phone, but their inability to release this seemingly simple audio playback application after so long is beyond frustrating. Especially since we've seen the beta version of it which by all accounts works beautifully. Having to carry around an iPod and my phone if I want to have access to my books is ridiculous. End the madness already! Let me love you unreservedly Windows Phone!
  • Hold your horses there skippy, the Audible app is being released later today
  • Huzzah!
  • They announced Audible too
  • Question for Daniel Rubino (or anyone who has an accurate answer)
Did I miss something in this mornings presentations? Was there ANY mention of full backup software being introduced with WP8? This is an absolute necessity for serious users and even gamers who lose their standings when you need to replace a broken or lost phone. We need it for WP 7.5 also until we
I can't see any IT person recommending these phones without it. If I am missing something please let me know. I have wasted sooooo much time in the last week reconfiguring two HTC Arrives after I broke my original Arrive phone. The replacement came with bad speakers whch could not be fixed and it was also replaced after a long setup.time.
  • 100k apps that soon will be updated for WP8 and won't run on WP7.8. Great. Fast app start for WhatsApp, IM or others? Only possible with native code according to the developers. And that won't come to WP7.8. So we have to live with 5 secs app starts forever. Great.
