Microsoft is gearing up to host its annual Build developer conference this spring, and while this event is usually hosted in Seattle in the month of May, this year it looks like the company is planning to host the event in San Francisco in June instead.
Last year, Microsoft confirmed plans to move Build out of the Seattle area, citing homelessness and cleanliness of the area as one of the main reasons. The company said in a statement that "our plans for Build 2026 have changed, but our vision to empower builders and developers at a major event next year remains unchanged."
Now, we know more about where Build may be headed next. In assets discovered by WalkingCat on X, it appears this years Build developer conference will be taking place on June 2-3 at Fort Mason, likely in San Francisco. Microsoft has held Build and numerous other conferences and events in San Francisco before, so this move is unsurprising.
Of course, this is yet to be confirmed by Microsoft so plans may change, but it's clear that the company is already building assets and marketing material for this years developer conference, and is likely preparing announcements and sessions for attendees.
Build is often where Microsoft will make announcements that focus on developers building for AI, Azure, Microsoft 365, and Windows. In the past, Build was primarily a Windows event, but in recent years the conference has shifted over to being more of an AI, Azure and Microsoft 365 event, with a small amount of Windows news on the side.
