Sea of Thieves pets and 'Pirate Emporium' detailed in new videos

What you need to know

  • Sea of Thieves is an exploration-based pirate game from Rare.
  • It's getting a Pirate Emporium with direct cosmetic purchases on September 11.
  • You'll be able to buy pets like parrots and monkeys.
  • You can purchase Xbox Game Pass through Amazon.

Sea of Thieves is an open-world pirate adventure where you can find treasure on your own or with friends. There are plenty of other encounters like a megalodon to keep you busy. There's a lot to do, and the title's popularity continues to grow due to its excellent post-launch support.

Many months ago, developer Rare promised that pets and other items would be added to the game. Instead of grinding for gold, these would be purchasable through direct purchases. Well, it looks like the Pirate Emporium will open for business on September 11, when the new Sea of Thieves event called Smuggler's Fortune starts. You can learn more about it by watching the videos. You can purchase the pets and other cosmetics through a paid and found currency called Ancient Coins.

Pets

The Pirate Emporium arrives with Sea of Thieves' Smuggler's Fortune update, bringing in the first selection of purchasable pets! Jon is joined by Design Director Mike and Game Designer Josh to explain what these parrots and monkeys will get up to in the game.

Hopefully, the pets and other cosmetics, like the Banjo-Kazooie ship, won't be too expensive. It'd be nice to only spend a couple of bucks to acquire a parrot or monkey. We should know exactly how much they cost in a few days.
