wpcentral app

The official Windows Central apps now have the official Windows Central name — update now!

Last night, we announced our name change from WPCentral to Windows Central. Since then, we have been blown away by the positive response, so a big thank you to everyone! At the time, we noted that our apps would be updated accordingly to reflect those changes. After just 24-hours, both the Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 apps are now getting that refresh!

The WPCentral app for Windows 8.1 picks up custom theme colors and more in the latest update

After a recent fix for our Windows Phone app, our developer extraordinaire Jay Bennett has turned his attention back to our Windows 8.1 Modern app. Today, a new update is now available and not only do we have the full changelog, we are proud to note it is more than 'bug fixes and general improvements.'

Without a doubt, one of the most requested features is finally here: the ability to set the default accent color of the app by the user. Therefore, instead of our banner magenta color, much like our Windows Phone app, you can now choose which accent color works for you. Another big feature is Mobile Nations Passport support for logins, but there is even more...

WPCentral app for Windows Phone 8 gets a hotfix for forum bug

Over the last week, some users have been experiencing issues with the WPCentral app for Windows Phone and our massive forums. Specifically, users are getting error messages when trying to access the feature through the app. I let you know last week about the problem, when we re-launched our mobile site, and that our developer Jay Bennett would address the issue as soon as he came back from vacation.

Today, version v4.5.5.915 is now live in the Store and brings along with it that hotfix for the forum issues. The update should resolve any connecting issues that people with Windows Phone 8 and higher were having.

WPCentral app receives some bug fixes and ability to disable custom notification

Monday being Monday there is a lot going on in the Windows Phone world. Adding to the fray of updates is the official Windows Phone Central app now at version 4.5.5. It brings some fixes and a new feature.

Let's take a look.

The WPCentral app for Windows Phone gets 1080p support, custom notification and more

The official WPCentral app for Windows Phone 8 today is going to version 4.5.4 and with it, a significant amount of fixes, new features and improvements are in store for you. Many of these additions have been in the making for awhile, and we are positive that if you use our app, you are going to like what is new.

Official WPCentral patch 4.4.20 now available - fixes notification crashing issue

It's patch day again for the official WPCentral app. After a slightly rushed fix we released last week to address problems some regions were experiencing when using Microsoft's pubcenter advertising controls, a new issue was introduced that affected users with the Iconic tile enabled when launching from toast notifications.

We're happy to say that said issue is fixed with today's release of version 4.4.20 for Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8. You'll find the full change list after the break as always, but if you'd rather just go grab the update then see the Windows Phone Store here.

The WPCentral app is the #1 New & Rising app in the US, big update inbound

Last week, we finally took the veil off of the official Windows 8.1 app for Windows Phone Central. Since then, it received a quick patch to address a network issue. It’s also maintained a healthy 4.6 rating (out of 5) with many positive reviews from all of you.

But you deserve better, and we’re prepared to deliver. Our lead developer, Jay Bennett, is expecting version to land in the Windows Store this week, maybe even as early as tomorrow. I’m looking at the changelog and see no less than 17 new or improved features.

Android users can now download the official Windows Phone Central app

For those of you that carry more than one smartphone you'll be pleased to hear the Mobile Nations family now has a new app addition - Windows Phone Central for Android. I'm sure its pretty fair to say that most of us will have friends rocking an Android smartphone - so send them over the below link and get them introduced to what Windows Phone Central has to offer.

They currently may not know what they're missing out on.

New update for the WPCentral app v4.4 now available

Happy Boxing day everyone! As we come to the end of 2013 we have a little tune up to announce for our Windows Phone app. This is a minor bump for version 4.4 up to revision 12 and you can go download it right now from the marketplace for WP7 and WP8.

Of course if you want to find out exactly what has changed you can stick around and we’ll tell you all about it below. Also don’t forget to go and check out the first sneak preview of our Windows 8 app if you haven’t already, we hope to be releasing that into public beta very soon!

Sneak preview of the Windows Phone Central app for Windows 8.1

You’ve asked for it, and we’ve finally got around to doing it. Yes, the Windows 8.1 app for Windows Phone Central is nearing completion. Or at least complete enough show you the app in action as we prep for beta testing!

Although that beta isn’t starting today (we tried, we really tried!), it will be happening in the coming weeks. In the meantime, take a look at our video tour, hosted by your cherub cheeked developer, Jay Bennett, plus a few screenshots and photos of the app in action.

Here’s how Nokia and Microsoft made our app even better

There’s an app all of you should have on your Windows Phone right now. It’s ours and it’s made by Jay Bennett. As you may have noticed, our app hit version 4.4 nearly a month ago. It wasn’t a big update in terms of features. Instead, it was a refinement of what was already a killer app. How did Jay refine it? With a bit of help from feedback from both users and a recent design review with Nokia and Microsoft. Let’s check out the video from that design review.

Official Windows Phone Central app hits version 4.4

It's been fairly quiet in terms of updates to our own official app for Windows Phone in the last couple of months, other things tend to get in the way especially when the big focus is something for bigger screens. That said we have some good news today in that version 4.4 of our app has just gone live and is available for you to download to your Windows Phone 7 or 8 device right now from the marketplace.

You'll likely only notice a few of the changes straight away so as usual you can read all about them after the break, as well as an important announcement about our Windows Phone 7 support from here on in.

Fix: Windows Phone Central App should be working again (for those on AT&T)

Last night, we reported that our app was having a few troubles on the AT&T network (and a few of you on Verizon said the same). It was a networking issue, not the app directly and while we won’t bother you with the details, it should be working for most users now.

We just checked on our phones and have finally had a successful connection, but we need to make sure all is good for the rest of you. So if you use our app and are on AT&T, Verizon, etc. please take the poll below and let us know your results!

New official WPCentral app patch available

You may have noticed a new update for your official Windows Phone Central app appeared earlier this week, followed by another one this morning. In the interest of keeping our readership informed we thought it best to let you know what these minor patches are for, but if you'd rather just get on with being up to date you can grab the update here in the marketplace.

The brief changelist and a little information on what's changed can be found after the break for those of you who enjoy technical details!

One more time: We're tuning up our official WPCentral app again

Apparently Microsoft aren't the only ones with a new rapid release cycle! Somehow today I get to announce a third update to the official Windows Phone Central app in the same number of weeks. Before anyone gets too excited though, this one is just a quick tune up to the v4.3 feature set, fixing two important bugs and finally bringing forum likes to Windows Phone 7 users.

Yes, we figured out why the Tapatalk API wasn't allowing the WP7 build to send like requests in our forums and that has now been resolved. Still, this isn't the most exciting update, but you can find the change list after the break or download from the marketplace right here (it should be showing up as version 4.3.15).

Another update for the official WPCentral app live today

Last week we pushed out an update to our app with a few new features, bug fixes and speed improvements, whilst also promising that a second part of that update would be coming this week. Well, that time is now and you can pick up the second release of v4.3 for both Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 from the marketplace right now.

This release contains an important fix for Windows Phone 8 users where using the lock screen wallpaper functionality was causing the app to use up more of your storage than it needed to. That problem is solved now and we've even included a new button in the settings that will clear out all files held by the app in temporary storage for those of you who like control over your gigabytes. See below for what else has changed.

New update v4.2 for the Windows Phone Central app ready to download, includes lock screen wallpaper support

It's time for another update to our official Windows Phone app, and this one brings functionality many of you have requested: lock screen wallpapers. If you're a die-hard fan of the site and just can't get enough Windows Phone news, or even want to bring the news front and center for a week or so, you can enable our app as your wallpaper provider to get the latest headlines on your lock screen. Our wallpaper colours can also be customised with the full range of Windows Phone accents, and you'll even get article images appearing when you're using our flip tile. Find and enable all of these options from the app's settings screen.

That's not the only new feature thought, we've also finally included support for playing videos through Metrotube, switched to the Nokia advertising exchange (for free users only of course) and updated Unification support with in-line images. See below for the full changelist as well as a few samples of what you can do when customising our lock screen.

Minor patch for the Windows Phone Central app available

You may have noticed an update available for our app this morning, and perhaps you're curious as to what has changed? It's not the most exciting patch but we are aware of issues that users of 512MB devices have been experiencing with the app and are working hard to try and fix these problems. Patch 4.1.3 is intended to fix said problems by reducing the memory footprint of the app with slightly lower quality image when running on the lower spec devices such as the Lumia 520, 620 or 720.

If you have been experiencing any kind of crashes with the app please update to this version. However if that still doesn't work for you it would be incredibly helpful if you got in touch via app@wpcentral.com. As much as the 1 star reviews in the store make it clear you have a problem it makes it impossible for us to diagnose and fix that problem! Now that we've cleared that up, there were a couple of other things in the patch that were ready at the time, see below for the full changelist.

Now Available: Windows Phone Central app v4

Over the weekend we gave you a sneak peak at version 4 of our official app for Windows Phone, and we're pleased to say it has now passed certification and is available on the marketplace right here.

So as always please download at your own leisure and enjoy the new features (which we've listed again below). Please note though that voice commands is a paid only feature and is currently only available in US and UK english, something which we're working to improve!
