The unofficial Twitch.tv app Unstream streams in as today's AdDuplex HERO App

Unstream is an unofficial Twitch.tv app that is available for both Windows PC and Phones. Unstream allows you to watch live streams and videos from the comfort of your Windows device and comes in as today's AdDuplex HERO App.

The HERO App program is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network. The program has changed slightly from last year and partners AdDuplex with AppDeals, TechRewards{.nofollow} and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers. Today we shine a little light on Unstream from Travis Liew.

Unstream

Unstream is a free, ad-supported app that is available for both Windows PC and Phones. The unofficial Twitch.tv app allows you to watch live streams and videos on demand. The app itself is laid out in simple fashion taking advantage of the Windows 10 menu to provide your navigational options such as visiting featured channels, top games, top channels, top videos and access the search tool.

You do not need a Twitch.tv account to use Unstream and view content, but you won't have the ability to leave comments, follow/unfollow channels and other membership features without one. Thankfully, a Twitch account is a free registration, so you might as well.

Unstream

Settings, also accessible from the menu, cover the app's general appearance, streaming quality, notifications settings and chat options.

In taking Unstream out for a test drive, it comes across as a nice Windows app for Twitch.tv fans. Videos loaded and played without issue. I did not experience any lag times or glitches with the Windows Phone or Windows PC version. Even the many videos from our Paul Acevedo came in loud and clear.

Unstream Windows Phone

Unstream may not have across-the-board appeal, but if you are a Twitch.tv fan, it is worth checking out.

Windows Central is already partnering with the myAppFree campaign and is proud to be collaborating with AdDuplex with the HERO Apps program. It is another great opportunity to promote the Windows 10 PC and Mobile platform.

  • Crashed on me twice today.
  • Never had that problem once.
  • Did you get the update from today?
  • If only there was an easy way to download the app without having to go to the store and do a search...
  • Won't let me download it, keeps making the store crash.
  • It happens when the app is being updated/has recently been updated Dunno if it's a general issue or specific to this app, but it happened to me recently (with this same app), just wait for few hours and try again. If you spend any meaningful amount of time on Twitch this app is a must have, video decoding is super optimized (like 2% cpu usage compared to 50% on any browser, regardless of html5 or flash player) The only issue (and potential deal breaker for some) is that you can't watch more than one stream at a time.
  • Thanks for the reply but this has been happening since last year.
  • Same here, I use it on my win10pc but on phone the store keeps crashing. And this happened with previous win10m builds as with previous store version. I tried soft & hard resets but nothing changed. I contacted the dev and he emailed me Microsoft answer saying that is a user side problem and not app related. But till today I haven't find a solution :(
  • Lovely third-party developers, lovely third-party apps! This app works so much better than the official Android app, I can assure you that.
