Want to see BitTorrent client Torrex on the Xbox One? You can now pledge your support

Popular BitTorrent client Torrex is exploring the possibility of making its app available on the Xbox One. With the Unified Windows Store launching later this year — paving the way for UWP apps to make their way to the console — the Xbox One will see a noticeable uptick in the number of apps.

Currently, you're not able to download torrents on the Xbox One, as the access to the hard drive is limited. However, Torrex also offers a robust media player, so it will likely position its app as an alternative to the default video player. We should know more once the Anniversary Update becomes available.

Developer Finebits OÜ is soliciting feedback on AppStretch. What do you guys think?

  • Seems like it would be a bit of a security issue if the data contained viruses. This could invite malware/virus creators to open a door. I like the idea but seems like it's out of place Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Consoles are locked down . They can't run unsigned binaries. All executables must be signed by Microsoft or comes from their store after they approve them someone getting a torrent containing hotchicks.exe will do nothing.
  • Locked-down all they want won't prevent skilled hackers from exploiting the OS.

  • Exactly. It's locked down now yes, but there aren't many mediums to let them in at the moment. That's why apps can be awesome and scary at the same time. I'm all for it if someone needs it but it can't compromise the experience foe the rest of us Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Exploits can and could be loaded through any means: Web, photos, videos, etc. A bittorrent client isn't going to make it inherently less secure, it's just asking ways you can load an exploit. Still, not common. As little as a USB flash drive loading it
  • Could you elaborate on what pledging my support entails? AppStretch is already requesting my social media details which im reluctant to give. Is this a crowdfund effort? Please clarify.

  • What should we do it on xbox when even it is not working on windows 10 mobile.
  • So basically people just want torrent pirate stuff direct to the Xbox One...
  • Right, the majority of users use these programs tend to pirate, so people supporting this cause are in bad morality.
  • Lol
  • Lol 1st thing came to mind hurting MS bottom line to sell services like xbox video
  • for me it doesn't even work on windows 10 mobile, when selecting a folder to download a torrent i can select sd or internal, but after that nothing happens
  • So, technically you want a PC. I,m am Torrex (even bought it to support the dev) user but the program is clunky sometimes and fails to start downloading. Also to open the folder where the file is requires you to make lots of clicks to get to that button.
  • Nope this is a bad idea. Great for hackers not so much ordinary folks! Better off downloading onto pc and use avast to scan then share on home network to Xbox. More secure way!
  • I use BitComet and torrentz then use seedpeer.me or torrenthound
  • How do you pronounce OÜ?
  • Oy Från min Lumia 1520
  • Then AVG will make it too the xbox one, because people don't know what they download and get scared.
  • I've been using torrex pro for a while and it works superbly on wp8.1 I don't know about w10m
  • Never got that to work on Windows 10. Everything used to hang. BitLord is much neater. Search engine built in.
  • Dirty dirty Torrents... No thanks
