What you need to know
- The "News and Interests" widget on Windows 10 appears blurry for some people.
- The blurriness appears after installing Windows 10 update KB5001391 or later.
- Microsoft is working on fixing the issue, which it will release as it becomes available.
Microsoft recently started rolling out the "News and interests" taskbar widget to Windows 10 PCs. The widget allows you to quickly glance at the weather and can pop open to show trending news, sports news, and other information. Unfortunately, some people see a blurry version of the widget on their PCs. As spotted by BleepingComputer, Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.
"After installing KB5001391 (opens in new tab) or later updates, the news and interests button in the Windows taskbar might have blurry text on certain display configurations," says Microsoft (opens in new tab).
While the widget is a new feature for Windows 10, it's shipping to older versions of the operating system as well. Any PC running the Windows 10 November 2019 Update or later should receive the feature.
Anyone noticed the new weather tab on the taskbar in Windows 10 is blurry or is it just me? :( Really like having it there but the blurry text is doing my head in. pic.twitter.com/SY9aawjvtyAnyone noticed the new weather tab on the taskbar in Windows 10 is blurry or is it just me? :( Really like having it there but the blurry text is doing my head in. pic.twitter.com/SY9aawjvty— Toby (@SoTotallyToby) June 14, 2021June 14, 2021
The News and interests taskbar widget has been a bit controversial since its release. Many have complained about it showing up unprompted after a Windows update. Luckily, you can easily turn it off or customize it. We have a complete guide on how to use the Windows 10 news and interests taskbar widget, including how to disable it entirely.
If you like the widget, you can easily customize it to show content that you're more likely to be interested in.

Some strings also get cropped on the right, which usually happens when you don't measure your required rendering width properly and end up a pixel or two too short.
Hopefully they can fix both, and if they could allow this and 3rd party Desk Bands (taskbar toolbars) on the taskbar of non-primary monitors, it would be even better, while I don't want to clutter my main taskbar, having small utilities as bands on the other screens would be great.
Having it on the taskbar of the non-primary monitor is a great idea. Any way it can be suggested to the team building this utility?

Thanks to the amazing web tech they decided to use, instead of the native one... but the team keep saying that they did the best choice
Yeah, we used to call these "quick and dirty prototypes".
Can't wait for live tiles to be replaced by dozens of embedded chromium controls containing individual tiny HTML pages with meta refresh 60 seconds in each of them to keep them up to date.
News and Interests looks fine on my Surface Go. No blurring.
Looks fine on my Dell and Surface devices. Wonder what causes it.
If they can’t get a small thing like this right then I shudder to imagine what Windows 11 looks like.
I thought I was the only one with blurry icon.
I turned it off. Eliminates the blur entirely. Don't need continuous weather taking up room on my taskbar, and opening EDGE takes me to the same news at my liesure. Oh and my weather tile covers me for quick glances at that info. Guess that is not long for this world though. Wonder how this will fit into Win 11.
